school help: My parents don’t want me to go to a concert for my favorite music group because they’re too “inappropriate”. - Help.com

My parents don’t want me to go to a concert for my favorite music group because they’re too “inappropriate”.

They are the main music I listen to and my parents hate it. First of all, being “inappropriate” is a common factor of high school so I don’t understand what they’re protecting me from. Second, banning me from seeing them in person won’t change my music preference. I don’t know what to do. This is their only American tour possibly for a couple years. I’m a good person, with good grades, and a good head on my shoulders. Why does my music matter?

When people are jumping around on stage uttering vulgarities, and you pay them to do that, then you are supporting that kind of thing.

Your parents do not wish to support vulgar entertainers whose main attraction is their “shock value.”

If people would quit buying tickets to events like the one you described, these people would have to clean up their acts. And that’s the lesson your parents are trying to convey to you.

I wouldn’t advise you take the above comment to heart.

Make them realize they’re not protecting you from anything ur otherwise not exposed to and being unreasonable.

You sound like myself when I was 13 years old. I could care less what my parents told me and I went without them knowing it and even climbed a tree to listen to and see Ozzy Osborne!

I do agree that some musical entertainment is ridiculous, but… there is nothing in the OPs message that logically supports your characterizations. we don’t really know why the OP’s parents find it “inappropriate” so I don’t think it’s fair to judge that way.

OP, I don’t know how old you are and what is meant by “inappropriate” so it is hard for me to judge. In general I agree with your argument. but I’m now sure how you can get through to your parents.

What is the music? If it includes songs urging you to kill your parents, then, I could see where they are coming from. One thing to keep in mind is that even though parents are mean, they know you and care whether you live or die, and even though some entertainers or other people in the world are charismatic or praiseworthy, they may not care at all about the effect of their message on your life.
