is it me or are school book stores a scam?

i can find my school books online at amazon for at least a 60% mark down, as well as the international editions which are super cheap, have the same texts, just a different photo cover. is that even legal?
its frustrating the school wants to charge me 600$ for used books, but i found them all on amazon for a total of 230$. I don’t get who there can be such a difference in the prices?

yes, and that’s how schools make(some of) their money. i went to a community college which had a handful of campuses. they insisted you buy books from the campus you’re attending by showing them your class schedule to verify. it was kind of lame since even amongst campuses there was sometimes a price difference for the same material.

So buy your textbooks on Amazon.

University bookstores have crazy pricings, and, yes, it is because they can get away with it. I remember slim paperbacks going for $30-$40. I started spending a lot of time at libraries and used bookstores, but online things are probably better.
