So I did something dumb and overdosed.

A friend called 911 and I ended up in the icu. I dont remember getting there as i passed out before the paramedics arrived. But anyways, after a few days they did some blood work, and apparently there is some abnormalities with liver function thingers or whatever. they said it shouldnt be an issue and to do follow up blood work with my doctor, i was released this morning. But now I am having some discomfort in my stomach and i just feel bloated. I sorta scared myself by looking up online signs of liver damage and bloating and stomach discomfort are both on there… So basicially… anyone who knows medical stuff, please either calm my mind, or give it to me straight cause im like freaking out lol… thanks… and yes i know it was stupid I already feel dumb because of it, please dont add to that. thanks.

I have no medical experience so don’t rely on my word. Just wishful thinking, maybe your liver is still filtering out some of the toxins, the doctors said there are some abnormalities so you gotta go back and check. You can’t really find know for sure until you go in again to get it checked out.

Sorry I don’t really know anything about it; I’d just try to make an appointment as soon as you can, and if something seems to go wrong, like a more severe pain or something that just seems pretty bad, I’d go in to a hospital. Maybe your insurance provider has a hotline number?

See the Emergency Room of your next hospital!
Never mind if insurance or not.

How old are you? If you don’t mind, can we talk about why you overdosed in the first place?

I’m not a medical doctor either. But when you ingest mass amounts of anything the body does what it can to deal with it. When you were in the ICU they had to give you more drugs to counteract with what you ingested, so more drugs the body has to deal with. The human body is remarkable at fixing itself head to toe. Time is your best friend right now. And do follow up with your doctor with the blood work.

You made a mistake, that doesn’t make you stupid or dumb, just human. It’s encouraging to hear you regret your actions and are imminently concerned with expedient recovery (From a mental health perspective.) I agree with Zirbel, your first step in this process is immediate follow up with a medical practitioner. You can’t get accurate or trust worthy advice from anybody other than a professional with access to your medical records and experience with overdose situations. Even medical web sites oriented toward addressing this topic should not be interpreted as definitive, rather a best practice guideline to help you execute a follow up plan. Second hand advice from other people, even those who have experienced an overdose under the exact same circumstances (Which is unlikely because every situation is unique) isn’t a sufficient advice platform in this situation. Human physicality varies significantly between individuals, thus your warning signs, thresholds and rehabilitation requirements will differ from others based on height, weight, physical condition, drug history, etc. I’m not familiar with the Canadian health care system, however, if the wait for a primary care physician is too long and the emergency room redirects you because your complications don’t fall under the purview of emergency medicine, try expanding your options. Look into drug recovery centers and outreach programs with a licensed M.D., N.P., P.A. or specialized R.N. on staff (As opposed to a counseling paradigm limited strictly to emotional rather than physical recovery.) Minimally you should obtain a copy of your medical records from the hospital that treated your overdose, a follow up visit won’t be as productive unless the physician can see your toxicity panel results and ascertain which procedures and counter measures were used in your case. As a hypothetical, if they pumped your stomach using charcoal as a filter it’s possible the bloating and stomach discomfort are a by product of the treatment and not the overdose. I say minimally because if you can provide medical records previous to the overdose your physician will have a means of establishing baseline normalcy.

P.S…Please don’t be ashamed and hurry your physical recovery as a means of putting this behind you as quickly as possible. Of course tending to your physical well being takes priority, but it’s only the first step. I urge you to be as diligent and attentive to the emotional realities as well. Don’t allow anybody to embarrass you over what amounts to a singular and hopefully isolated event, despite the acronym after their name. Medical doctors are not psychologists and can exhibit the same biases and ignorance as laymen regarding emotional and mental recovery protocol. There is no uniform approach to bedside manner and occasionally it can be the behavior and perceived judgement of a medical professional that prevents patients from seeking emotional support professionally. I’m by no means suggesting your overdose was intentional or consciously reckless, you could have miscalculated during a recreational experience. Despite the specifics leading up to your overdose it’s not common to survive such an experience without incurring emotional damage in the process. Whatever has happened is done, and we all have moments of poor decision making. This is not a stigma, it’s an event. The tone of your question is reassuring and you seem cognizant of the severity and potentially negative impact an overdose can reap. Even if you don’t think you need it, please consider one appointment with an experienced drug counselor or overdose support group. One good faith effort to balance emotional and physical recovery before you put it behind you.

19. Financial reasons, social reasons, family reasons… the works. lol… Broke and a ton of bills, some of which were occured just by me being too nice (I.E “co-signing” a contract for a “friend”), socially Im sorta without friends as I tend to just get used by people, which has led me to have a sort of… mistrust towards everyone which makes it really hard for me to go out and meet new people. family was broken since i wasyounglol. so too much to go into detail there. and numerous other reasons.

Well… thanks. Although it was a dumb mistake. lol. And unfortunitially no it hasnt been an isolated incident… But the closest and most serious one. And with how things turned out and how I feel today… Im definitially not going to risk it again. And I do have an appointment with a mentalhealth worker. so… as long as i dont find out my liver is failing or something… I should be alright. :)

Thanks for your help guys. Ill post whatthe results of the blood work are if anyone wants to know. otherwise… Thanks again! and I appreciate your posts!
