work help: I am desperate to get out of my job. - Help.com

I am desperate to get out of my job.

I tok the maslach burnout test, and scored 65 of 75 - not good. I would walk away, but support two kids. And am not prepared to walk away from a career of 12 years that quickly.

I have applied for another job, and am optimistic. But if I don’t get it, I am very concerned about how long I will be in this job. I feel trapped, crushed by the pressure, and have no hope ,y employer will ever move to fix the problems that have caused me to s sverely burn out.

unfortunately you can rarely count on anyone to look out for you and honestly i wouldn’t count on your employer for this. that’s great that you’re out looking and have hopes to get that new job….i’d suggest to keep applying to many jobs so if this falls through you’ll have others to back it up. sometimes you just have to create options for yourself.

My dear Anon, I sympathize greatly with your problems. And you are smart to look for other jobs.

But there is something that is much worse than going to a crappy job everyday: it’s sitting at home, filling out scores of job applications everyday, and not getting a single call for an interview . . . and doing this day after day, week after week, month after month . . . until the months turn into a year, and then a year and a half, and you still haven’t gotten a job.

So so not give up your job, no matter how crappy it is, until you have a SOLID offer from another employer!
