You cannot have any dependent children and become a nun. If your children are grown you can become a nun.

When a Catholic woman applies to join a convent or a religious community, she will be asked if they has dependent children.

As far as I know, a woman cannot become a nun if she is caring for a young child. Nor can she be married, though it is possible for widows to enter. The vows a woman takes as a nun override her role as a mother, so she cannot live out both vocations. Thus, dependent children would not be able to stay with her in the convent.

If the children are independent, it’s no problem.
