Experience help: I have been having trouble getting a job in my field as a copywriter in advertisement. - Help.com

I have been having trouble getting a job in my field as a copywriter in advertisement.

As of now I am in retail (dead end) making 8.00 bucks an hour, my hours varies from week to week and so does my paycheck.

I don’t have real world experience which is holding me back and not many people are willing to give me a internship, because I am not a student anymore.

I graduated a year ago. I almost got a new job but they chose someone else. I really do not know what to do. I might have the opportunity to do some freelance work but it is not promised.

I know someone that I used to work with that is making 10 an hour at a call center and 40 hours a week. I don’t know if I should apply for that job. My biggest fear is that if I’m working at a job that has little or no relation to the field I want to work in that I will never be able to be a copywriter. I’m a writer in general, so I can write for the newspaper which doesn’t really interest me. Maybe a magazine but my writing is more on the creative side.

What should I do? Am I being to picky? What can I do to get into the field I want to work in, if I cannot do internships or other ways to actually gain experience in that field.

I’m sorry, but I’m kind of lost on what you are asking. Maybe you could explain what your degree is in and what copywriting is (technically). I think if you really want to pursue a career in writing/advertising, you should think about maybe talking to a radio show about writing some of their material, or talk to small businesses in your area. I wish I could be of more help, but I’m not positive of what you are wanting to do.
