It could be muscle or nerve damage which has nothing to do with your bones so it wouldnt come up too great in an x-ray, if at all. try to get an MRI on the knee. My dad has knee problems, and has to get MRIs on it. same with his back and shoulder. Just go into the ER and they have to accept you if you dont have money or insurance. they can not turn you away.. sugar coat it a little if you have to to make them do a little more than just an x-ray.. tell em it hurts a little more than it really does if you have to, so that will push them to investigate a little further on waht it may be. since its been hurting for years there is definitely something wrong there.. a knee doesnt hurt for that long for no reason, so for a doctor to push you out the door after just doing an x-ray and telling yoyu there is nothign broken so you are fine is wrong.. there are other possibilities and different ways to check out a sore knee. not everything will show up on an xray.
