How to absorb information that you are studying?

There is always a voice in my head sneering at the information like I can’t get myself to believe or respect the things I’m studying. Its odd.

I always have an easier time holding on to information if it fits with other information I have. I can’t hold onto random facts very well, but if I can put together a sort of cause and effect story with a pile of information, that really helps me. Maybe it could help you too. Is there any reason you can think of for why you doubt the information you’re trying to absorb?

I think I just have a layer of doubt in place, that nothing can really penetrate.

I am almost completely immune to the outside world, so the only things that work for me are repetition and focus. Like, I know that anything I want to integrate as knowledge will seem senseless unless I replay it a few million times, even if it’s a thought that I made up myself, so if I want to believe it, I replay it a million times, consciously trying to pay attention and seeing if there’s anything that seems good or true about it. I use different formats, because audio tires the ears and visual tires the eyes, just have to keep trying in different ways, in different states of consciousness. Being really relaxed or interspersing with exercise/bodywork can help. Studying related things or googling “how to study” can help.

I know what you mean. I used to basically write my own book about whatever the information was. Thanks.

Endlessly googling “comprehension” used to work for me a few years ago, because I was consciously aware of how well I was comprehending each moment I was reading about comprehension. Immediate feedback can help if the intention is to clarify understanding skills. And if you can understand, it’s much easier to remember.
