Car help.

It’s making as noise like a lawn strimmer at the high end of the gears, mainly 3rd, 4th & 5th.

The noise stops as soon as i take my foot off the accelerator.

Any ideas?

Keep your foot off the accelerator… get a boat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0O0nz…

Not good advice.

Also, even though i do live on the coast, a boat wouldn’t really be the best choice for a mode of transport.

many (reputable) mechanics will diagnose the problem for free… it could be anything from tire wear patterns causing the noise or something more severe. It’s hard to say… I would suggest calling some mechanics and getting their opinions.

it isn’t the tyres, they’re pretty new, and the noise stops when i take my foot off the accelerator.
It might be something more serious, but i just can’t think what.

Thanks.

Beats me. Wonder if it could be a wheel bearing?

Possible, but the handeling is still fine, and it only does it at the top end of the gears & stops when acceleration stops.

I’m going to be replacing the brakes soon so will see then if it’s the bearings.

Got me stumped though, this is a new one on me.

The car had been off the road for a while, i’d been using my other one all the time.

Sounds like the throw out bearing or pilot bearing in the trans. It also could be the pressure plate and disk. Without hearing the sound its making these are just possible problems, could be the operator. lol :-)
