Debit Card/ Paypal problems…

Got this email.

“Thank you for shopping at _____________. It has come to our attention that Paypal has frozen payment for this order pending Paypal Review. Please understand that this verification phase is beyond our control. Normally, Paypal Payment Review takes 24 hours or less to clear, but more often, within a few hours. We apologize for the delay, as this is part of Paypal’s new policy directed toward transactions made for virtual goods.”

I’m new to purchasing things online. I bought a Visa debit card, and used it to purchase something using Paypal (using a guest account). After I submitted the payment, I received an email from the site I ordered from saying that “paypal has frozen payment.” What is that? Will my payment still go through? I’ve been hearing about frozen bank accounts but is that the same thing? I’m kind of worried right now….

Your using a guest account? So you haven’t confirmed your identity? Also, you bought a visa card, do you mean to say you got a pre-pay visa card from a store and are using that?

PayPal is a very screwed up organization. It has a “formula” for determining when a purchase may be “suspicious,” but this “formula” follows no rhyme or reason.

You will have to call PayPal. Emailing does absolutely no good, as emails are directed to a center in India where the employees have ZERO power to do anything for you.

PayPal did me wrong, so I closed my account. I had used their “line of credit” once or twice and always paid it off. It was only $500. But, get this: somehow, they had an “outstanding balance” of $5 on my “line of credit account.” This balance did not show up when I opened my PayPal account page to look at my status. PayPal never notified me that this $5 was somehow “outstanding.” So, guess what? GE Capital Bank, which operated the line of credit (completely unknown to me, as I thought I was dealing only with Payapl), kept adding late charges until the $5 was now $87. Then a collection agency contacted me. I PROMPTLY sent the collection agency a cease and desist letter, to prevent further contact. After making numerous phone calls, I found out what happend, and I filed a complaint against GE Capital Bank with the Better Business Bureau. GE Capital Bank then expunged the charges, retracted any derogatory information sent to the credit bureaus, and told the collection agency to take no further action.

Now, when a business does something to me like PayPal did, I sever ties with that business. I canceled my eBay and PayPal accounts. PayPal had similarly “frozen” my account when I was in Afghanistan before, and tried to use PayPal to pay for a pocket watch ordered from the UK. I had to scramble and get a Western Union “moneygram” that cost me $50–and PayPal never reimbursed me or apologized. So, Strike Two and PayPal/eBay got canned!

Google “PayPal complaints” and you will see what a screwed up outfit PayPal is. And they will never apologize for leaving you high and dry like they just did.

The problem with PayPal–they just got too big for their britches . . . and they got too arrogant. I will never, ever use them again. You also have to give them too much power over you–to give them your bank account numbers, etc. You will have to make something like 20 - 30 phone calls to get a problem resolved.

PayPal–it’s just not worth it! If a merchant won’t take a credit or debit card, to heck with them!
