Hello.

I’ve been thinking of writing a philosophical(and perhaps a bit psychological, too) book but I have no clue how to start and what to write about. Does anybody has any tips about writing a book or has any heplful ideas? The book would be rather simple, not touching the age old questions or topics e.g. morals, the reason of our existance and so on… That’s about as clear as I can get about the topic.. Something similat to the kind of style that Osho or Tommy Hellsten has.

/shrug/ I’m afraid I have no idea ^^ I don’t like theoretics and philosophy as much as pursuing simple truths.

Osho spent his life both in deep studies and deep meditation. If you read the Book of Secrets, it becomes clear that he approached his spirituality with everything he had, in every way he could think of or read of. His writings or talks are just a secondary side-effect of that.

I would read “Illusions” by Richard Bach or “The Prophet” by Kahlil Gibran or “The Gift” by Hafiz, or “The Tao te Ching” to think of slightly simpler ideas that are equally or even more spiritually profound.

Me neither.. I’ yet to explore the endless field of philosophy… That’s why I feel like writing a book now, before i’m too old and forget about the most easiest but yet the most profound truths and replace them with the complicated grown ups’ ones..

I wrote about a fith of a book on helping people sell their home by themselves as I was passionate about saving people money and I also had lots of experience in this and I found that writing conversationally as though I was talking to a couple people right in front of me was the best way to have it all flow. Give it a try. One story or idea seemed to flow into another and before I knew it I had 40 pages of really good stuff. Then I got the Block! But I will be back. Good Luck!

but how is it possible to make it interesting, so somebody(aside from people who read autobiographies) would actually want to read the book if it basically talks about me?

I think this a problem i see myself and a lot of people who aspire to be writers have. I may be inferring too much, but I think you want to write a book that will sell and be popular.

That shouldn’t be your initial impulse. Your initial impulse should, and almost has to be, I HAVE AN IDEA!

You can’t force a philosophical exploration out of thing air. Or thick air for that matter. Any air.

You need to find something in your life that interests you and write about it if your so inspired, and if you have a story to tell, hone that story, and work on it and keep writing and keep writing.

But don’t write a book just to write a book, it won’t work.

I want to write a book because I feel as if I have something to say to others, I want to teach others and make them think along with me. I dont want to write about the absolute truth because there is no such thing but instead, I want to make the reader inspired, make him or her think and perhaps start searching for the truth or knowledge..ahh.. I just don’t know how to make it because I suppose I haven’t yet figured out what exactly do I have to say to people because i want to be concrete about my writings, so I wouldn’t be wasting the reader’s precious time.
Thanks for your reply, I think I managed to clear out some things for myself, too. I suppose the main reason why I’m here is just to find out what people would like to read about..and then by taking that also into consideration, write more useful book ….. I could go on endlessly now. So I shall stop now and thanks again :-)
