Thinking of joining the Royal Marines in the UK

Hi,

I’m considering joining the Royal Marines.I live in Liverpool. My question is, can you pick what base you want to train at? I know there are bases in Plymouth and Somerset, as well at two in Scotland. I ask because If i were given the choice I would choose Plymouth as its very close to family.

i don’t know if you get choices, if you get a choice
if there are recruiters they might be able to help
But thank you for serving your country

I’m guessing that the Royal armed forces are the same as all others around the world… and the basic answer is No.

There may be a base close to your family, but that does not mean that it is a training base. You would join and be stationed wherever the training base is. You would go and train.
After training, you MAY have some choice in where you are posted, but there is no guarentee. You go where, and when you are told.

could you not enquire? the good think about the UK is it’s very small and you can get anywhere on the train in less than a day, so if it’s something you’re serious about I wouldn’t let that stop you.
