Usually you start with an “=” sign. From there you can use math functions and operators (+, -, *, /) with references to different cells (A1, A2, B1). For example “=A1 + B1″ will give you the sum of the values in cell A1 and B1.

An undergrad is a college student currently going for a four-year degree. Syntax is a set of rules for a language which deals with the arrangement of letters and numbers. An example of syntax will be computer programming code.

in word u can enter vis microsoft equation, accessed through Insert>Object. this program takes a little to understand what the symbols mean, and will not calculate the values, but will allow you to represent an equation in word effectively.

To work with a kinda of equation editor (not to solve, but to write equations) open the Winword.exe; from the Insert Menu select insert an object; from the object type drop-down list, select Microsoft Equation 3.0 (this instruction applies for MS Office 2003.
