Money help: Hi, I’m 22 years old, my father is gay, my mother is sick, - Help.com

Hi, I’m 22 years old, my father is gay, my mother is

sick, homeless, and just moved in with me and my boyfriend, and there isn’t anyone to offer any kind of help or support.
My mother has many medical disorders one of which causes a shift and compression of her brain and spinal cord. She is still waiting for SSI with absolutely no information. I, myself, am in college. I worked hard, and set myself up with money (from work) I saved and a little bit left over from my student loan to be able to not work while finishing at least one semester. This is the first time I haven’t had a job since I was 14, I knew it was too good to be true.
From having to move my mother from Missouri, and now having the financial hardship of her living here I don’t have any money. She only receives $800 a month alimony that just started a few weeks ago. On top of that, the medicine that she needs costs her approximately $398 a month, leaving her $402. I need some help; financially, mentally, emotionally. She can’t get her own place, we can’t do anything. No one else in my family will help. Are there any suggestions about state aid or foundations in Michigan that offer some sort of support, even if only temporary. Please, I need some help, I’m alone and scared.

Call up your local hospital and ask about some non-profit programs that help cover medical costs. You can also google them. How old is she? Medicaid/Medicare should cover some costs, if not all of them, as well.

I heard of a site called modestneeds.org they might be able to help. Also talk to your campus counsellors, they would know of resources that the average joe wouldn’t.

I’m going through the same thing and frankly there is very little help for us older people who get sick. Here is a few agencies that have helped me.

St. Vincent DePaul- Contact your local catholic Church.

Modest Needs- Will help pay for a bill under $999.00

Apply for food stamps through the department of human services within your state, they also have medical which takes two months to get.

Contact your township office they should have some kind of assistance and also they can direct you to other resources.

Financially there is very little help but you will not go hungry! This may help so you wouln’t have to buy food which will cut down your bills.
