I can’t import quicktime (.mov extensions) files into Windows Movie Maker, how do I do this.

I’ve seen other people doing this before. Am I missing something, like a download?

.mov is a proprietary format created by Apple Quicktime and cannot be used in Windows Movie Maker. There is no known plug-in to allow the use of this file type either.

However, you are not stuck. There are many products out there which can convert video such as .mov to formats that WMM can use such as mpeg, avi and so on.

two options quickly come to mind:

1. Purchase Quicktime Pro, which i believe is around US $39.00. This would allow you to export your .mov files in many popular formats.

2. Purchase Nero Professional. This is the option i use as there are a multitude of other useful tools included in nero. Such as Burning (CD and DVD), audio, video editing, backup utilities and so on. Nero allows you to both import and export to and from just about any known file type there is.

I personally use Nero Vision (video editing) to make my movies, and this application comes with Nero Suite. It has a similar look and feel to WMM, but didnt lose the ability to use .mov files due to politics along the way.

If your dead set on using WMM to make your movies. I would recommend getting Nero Suite above Quicktime Pro simply for the other add on applications which come with it. Then use Nero to export your .mov files to mpeg or avi for use with Windows Movie Maker.

I fully agree with your point of view. However I am experiencing troubles when using NeroVision 4 to compile and edit QuickTime movies. Basically, it will hang at a random point while transcoding, or produce a DVD with parts without sound. Have you ever experienced this type of problem?

Windows Movie Make only supports AVI WMV video files, so that’s why you can’t load mov files directly to windows movie maker.
Here is a Video Converter which can easily convert mov files files to avi wmv mp4 etc video audio files, and I use it for a long time, it works flawless, hope it helps:0
