I don`t know much about what level 5 or year 8 means in terms of age/ability but I find Wikipedia is an interesting site to pick up the key information of a topic and being on the computer is more interesting to browse than a book.
is it biology, chemistry or physics you struggle with most?

My most helpful books when I was studying were short study notes or dictionaries specific to the topic.
I found chemistry boring but if you have shows like `brainiac - science abuse` (uk) on tv where you live then it makes it interesting.
Don`t let your teacher put the blame on you, it is her responsibility to teach you and her job to do so in the most efective way for you as an individual to learn. If she is unable to do that then she is not so good a teacher.

If you have any bio or chem questions, post them up here! :)
I took 2 years of bio/chem/physics courses in university before switching to psych.
