I heard that it had something to do with the distance between two major sites on the earth. I can’t remember where though. I think one was in England, maybe one of those circles of stones.

I’m pretty sure inches were developed off of finger bones, foot off of feet, and cubit off of the lower arm length.

That’s why they standardized them by using the king’s sizes. That’s also one way archaeologists can date things - by the size of the cubit / foot / inch used. There’s a compilation somewhere of all the sizes for different kings, and they just compare what they find with that.
