Can someone please give me accurate information?

I am dreadfully and unsuccessfully trying to uninstall Vista and reformat my HD so I can install Windows XP. I have a bunch of software that I use daily that is not compatible with the Vista. OK, here’s the scoop:

INSPIRON E1405, DELL. 80 GB HD
Preinstalled with Vista Premium Home Edition.

I put in the XP CD, reboot, choose to reboot from the CD Rom Drive, it starts to install and I get this error message:
***STOP: (0xC0000005, 0xF76120BF, 0xFA5E208, 0xF7A5DF08)

I was told by a Dell Tech guy that it needed SATA drivers, that I would need to download these to a floppy and boot that way.

Could someone tell me if this is correct, and if so, where can I get these drivers, and PLEASE give me step-by-step instructions on what to do here. I am so at my wits end. I spent 60 minutes online tonight alone with Dell support in India, $99 with Geek Squad just to tell me they couldn’t help, 2 hours on the phone with Dell this week, called Microsoft support… My head is going to explode if some poor sole doesn’t help me soon. I really do appreciate any expertise. I can be emailed at (email removed)

If they say you need SATA drivers … well, that’s kind of silly. However, you can give it a try.

First, at what point do you get that error? As in, what screen is showing right before it happens?

I ask because, if you are crashing before you even get to the install screen where you can load other drivers, there’s no point.

Also — what software are you lacking in Vista?

The screen comes up with that “If you want to load third party drivers, raid”..or something to that effect, it starts, and then BLAM! Blue screen with the errors on it.

Thanks!

Ok, that’s the right screen. Right when it says “load third party drivers” you should be pressing the key to do so. Probably something like F6 if I recall.

At this point, you’ll need a floppy disk with the drivers for your SATA onboard hard drives. The computer should have come with a drivers CD which you can take over to a friends machine (with a floppy) to make a driver disk for your machine.

Your computer should have also come with a manual on how to do this.
