Help with the Bible: Give it away. Better yet, burn it. I, unlike most Christians, have read it cover-to-cover. Repeated outbursts included “God, isn’t God a ****!” and “HOW many people were in that city until three verses ago?”

Which Kings & what’s the question?

1 Kings 19 synopsis: Jezebel threatens Elijah, Elijah runs, angel tends to him, God asks, “What are you doing here Elijah?” Elijah answers. God tells Elijah to go in cave: wind, earthquake, fire, and whisper pass by, and God is only is the whisper.
God asks, “What are you doing here Elijah?” Elijah replies the same as he did the first time. God tells Elijah to go to Damascus (which is in the opposite direction of where Elijah was running) to annoint Hazael as kings over Syria and Jehu as king over Israel, and to take Elisha as a disciple. Elijah goes and takes Elisha as disciple.
Points of interest: (1) God talks in a still small voice, (2) when we act and then talk to God, sometimes we end up backtracking, (3) check out Elisha’s zeal for the Lord; it’s really inspiring, (4) though we may feel alone, there is always a remnant that God has set aside.

2 Kings 19: Hezekiah’s messengers return with a threat from a powerful king, so he tears his clothes and went to the temple, and asks Isaiah

Isaiah prophesies that YHWH will protect Israel, and the king is killed by his own sons.

Points of interest: (1) Hezekiah goes straight to God when he’s in trouble, (2) “God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him”, (3) The battle belongs to the Lord.
