I am seriously considering writing another book.

it would refernece this site. what i need, before i go anywhere with this, because i consider a lot of you my friends, is your permission to possibly use your replies to some post in the book. if you will, please shout me, or leave a message here, saying yes, no or yes with these conditions. i.e change my user name, i want approval before you use each indivitual reply, etc. etc. after this, i will check into the legalities of referencing this site, unless jeff would like to help me get started on that? thanks in advance, and i will honer your wishes either way.

fronde, i am not sure. this will be a work in progress for a while. there is the potential that i might want to use some from everyone, but even if it is legal without permission, i will not do it without permission. and if i do want to, i would let each of you approve each quote or post, and add any conditions you would feel comfortable with. if i get no answer from someone, i will not even look at their posts or replies for the book.

i guess i am looking for which things to even look at. what we write on here is personall, and not all for everyones eyes. but, we are all helpers, and if i go thru with the book, it will be a book about people, helping, relationships, among other themes

for the few paranoids, i could have just as easily took what i wanted, and never said a word until 2 years later you saw your words in a book, attributed to anonymous, or John Smith, or surfer3454. since i do respect you all, that is why i am taking this chance, and being honest about what i want to do.

i risk my membership here, some friendships, and getting my feelings very hurt. but, this is important to me. and i would hope important to anyone who wants to help others

P.S. i do not plan on publishing any poetry, or adding any to a book. it is not that kind. and personal interactions, like among person a and b exclusivly, is also something i am NOT interested in using.

thanks everyone

jeb, please tell me. i will avoid your stuff altogether if you like, but we had a pretty good debate in my post how would you run the country. i wanted to use that, and then campare it to a later discussion to show how quickly relationships can form in a forum like this.

and also, nothing from chat, except in general reference, i.e. ” so then jeb, hm and myself spent the next 3 hours discussing the way coffee taste in the morning as opposed to in the evening, thus reaffirming our theory about perception of events”

thanks. the other book was a study in social dynamics. mob mentality, group decision making, etc, etc. a little tech, and VERY limited publication. it’s best use would be as an obscure sourse for a resaearch project, ha ha. it was co authored with my friends mom, Anna, a proff at University of South Florida.

i also had a little poetry published by my middle school english teacher, without my consent. jokes on here, it only sold 2000 copies. ha ha. i hate poetry. but i mean, i was in 7th grade for Gods sake, what was she thinking?

kudos when i publish, ha ha. i enjoy reading Stephen King type nivels, and that is what i wanted to write, but I have no talent for that. when i try, all i do is rehash his stories. so I had to go a different direction alltogether.

I guess I would recommend, contrary to what others say, that you write about something you know NOTHING about, so you have to do all the research yourself, and you do not mess it up with your bias and opinions. thats for the subject, or plot. for the people, base them on people in your life, makes them more real.

what would i do to damage that? this site is accessable to anyone with an email account and internet access. there is a vewry good possibility that your words are already out there somewhere, in a school report, a short essay at a college, a human interest story in a local paper, anywhere.

this was said by someone else, and i am VERY curious, why, for people that want to help and be helped, would you worry about exposure, esspecially when at the very worst it would be a quote contributed to Tommyboy3454.

or is it that some of the opinions that people have expressed here are not holding up under their own scrutiny, and they do NOT want a wider audiance to see them, and judge them?

or is it something else? what about this could damage or hurt this site?

and furthermore, why, if this site helps the hundreds, wouldn’t we want to help thousands, or tens of thousands, or even millions with our aquired knowledge and wisdom.

listen, i am not planning on writeing a book about HELP.COM, i am writting a book about our society, the problems we face, the solutions available to us, and the help others are willing to give. I WILL write the book no matter what, but wheather or not i use quotes and dialogue from this site depends on your answers.

if and when there was a book of this nature published, i would think that the admin of cnet would rather contribute in a positive way, or at least in a none negative way, rather than deny the possibilty out of hand.

I am against your book idea in any way. I am simply advising you to get permission from the Legal team to save you trouble later when you do approach publishers. A close family member has published several books and he is always lamenting the legal wrangling on rights and permissions that sometimes delay distribution.

So words that i think up in my head and write here belong to help.com? or cnet? poetry that i write on here is (on paper anyway) their’s?

having a second thought at this. Unless i have copywrited poetry or words that i say/type then anyone, anywhere in the world can steal them. So if i type them into Help.com their copywrite on words, overrides my copyright (cause i have none) and the words belong to them. Is this what happens, do i have it right?

i can and will only go so far in answering these questions. i am in no way asocciated with cnet, or the lawyers that drew up the terms of use. but i do advise that anytime you sign up for anything or agree to terms, you read those terms first. when we all signed up, we all agreed to abide by the terms of use for this site.

i do not want to stir up trouble, and if i would have known about this lack of knowledge earlier, i would have asked an admin to address it, but i had assumed everyone was reading the terms before they signed up

the other book was a study in social dynamics. mob mentality, group decision making, etc, etc. a little tech, and VERY limited publication. it’s best use would be as an obscure sourse for a resaearch project, ha ha. it was co authored with my friends mom, Anna, a proff at University of South Florida.

i also had a little poetry published by my middle school english teacher, without my consent. jokes on here, it only sold 2000 copies. ha ha. i hate poetry. but i mean, i was in 7th grade for Gods sake, what was she thinking?

So what would you write this book about? And your two novels, why haven’t you tried publishing them?

have you done any sort of art project, or created something you felt was wonderful, but if you exposed it, and recieved a bad reaction, you would be crushed?

1 of the books is very much like the series “HEROS” in character, but not in plot.
quickly, it is about 10 people, from all over the world, that discover they have certain powers. 5 of them use the powers for personal gain, 4 for good, and one for pure evil (he is a sociopath, with superpowers:(

this is the only part that is even close to the t.v. show, and i wrote this about 8 years ago.

the second is quasi religious. the near future. a small percentage of the people of the world suddenly reveal themselves to be demons in disguise. they begin a campaign of war to take over earth in preperation for the coming of their master. a band of humans, lead by the husband of one of the demon leaders (he was unaware of her true nature) begins to rally a resistance force. in the course of time, minor angels show up to help the humans. after this, many mythical creatures, both good and bad, begin to appear. the end takes a twisted turn, and this becomes an interstellar battle for domination of the entire universe.

okay?

I am thinking of trying to submit them, and i am sorry, but no go on the read right now. If, and when i do get them published, same thing as the new book, my friends from here will get an advanced copy. good enough??

Yes, but if you created this work of art and you brought it out to the world and it was a great success, wouldn’t that be a dream come true for you? To know that you are good enough to be published, sell books, have many people read them and love the stories? My grandfather had this same problem. He wrote and wrote and wrote, but could never get the point of publishing them. He died with all these written manuscripts, and though his dream was to publish, he never just did it.

And even if you didn’t succeed, at least you tried. Even if you sell only one book, the one you bought yourself, it’s still a success.

what category would you put you books in. would a 15 year old be able to read them fine.

what was the first book called

depnds on the child. some 15 year olds can handle the end of life as we know it better than others. and i have said i am not going to give the title of the reference book. that would comprimise my identity, wouldn’t it.

the two unpublished books, of course i would not give out the titles, what if someone used my title before i could publish. i am sorry if this seems rude, but you have to see my point of view.

there are quasi religios factors to both books, more in the second. but, if a 15 year old can handle stephen king, he/she could handle these books. but even if i decided to update and try to get them published, it would be a year or two at least. so the 15 would be 16 or 17

Right now I am going through all my grandfather’s manuscripts, because I want to publish his work and have his name properly restored. He had three complete novels and lots of short stories, sketches for other novels. It’s alot of work though. He saved them on disk, but all the disks are too old and can’t be read. So I am left with the paper copies. At first I was very enthused, but I am close to the end of one and am burnt out. So instead I am bad and go on help.com.

sorry AK - but I would be even more depressed than i am now if i thought my “private” thoughts about myself or for others were used that way. i am an author too, and i understand the… temptation? to use others’ writings as a basis for my own work. I am sure it is unrealistic of me to think that nothing i say here would ever be taken - it is a public space. But if you are serious about what I would feel about it… I would feel violated just the same. Like if I was watching TV and someone started reading actual excerpts from help.com - even if just to inform the public of the site.

even just thinking about this makes me want to leave and never come back :(

the problem with this post is i keep having to repeat myself. i will respect that you do not want your words used. wretch. but just fyi, your words here belong to cnet. but i value the people on this site as friends, so i asked anyway.
but..the few things i MIGHT use from here would hardly be the basis for my work, just another reference, or for exsamples of help rendered and recieved by people around the world via these types of sites and forums. you are OVER reacting a little, because your already exposed to anyone with internet access. but, as i said, only those who agree might be quoted, if and when, and dependant on cnets decision at the time. i have stated this previously in this post, but, i understand it is a lot to read.

Grace, uh…yeah, tell me about it. ha ha

what? if you read the whole post you would know the answer.

that seems like a cery strange question alltogether. i am writing it……..jesus, i am so sick of having to repeat what i have already said. so ok, 3or 4 say don’t use my replies. 2 say it might cause problems, but do not clarify if they are giving permission or not.

thanks to everyone who really wants to help others, i do appreciate it, and even if i never use one single line from here, this site will be a driving force in my mind.
