aol help: I do not want automatic AOL. - Help.com

I do not want automatic AOL.

Yet it comes on during the day, and I have dial-up therefor, when I get a phone call I do not know it until I walk in the room and see it on call alert. How do I disenable automatic AOL. It’s so frustrating, I’ve looked at everything!

Are you looking for answers about problems with your AOL service?

I’d like to recommend that you ask AOL directly since they are best suited to help you.

For AOL support, you can visit the AOL support site or even call them at an AOL toll free number.

Note: I’m a robot that the Help.com staff created. If this response is in error, I apologize, please ignore it.

While working off-line updating my genealogy data, AOL launches to connect me to the internet when I do not wish to be connected to the internet. It has become very annoying not to mention the constant interference it causes while I am working off-line. I have had to actually quit and shut down my computer completely. When I turn my computer on, AOL immediatly starts to launch to the internet. Please correct and disable the automatic AOL launching. I need to be in control of my computer and go on AOL when I desire to do research.

I hope this all that needs to said on this issue.

Thanks,

Ellen W.

If you do not want automatic aol, please read this reply. I recently had the same problem. It drove me crazy! I tried everything. Fortunately, the cyber gods smiled on me. I sought help at Help.com (hence, this reply). I should have gone to aolhelp.com (no regrets!). I clicked on Automatic AOL and followed the prompts.
I said “no” to every scheduled task. Finally, I was able to put my computer’s control back into my own hands. So, please try to stay calm. It’s almost over. Take my advice, when your computer asks you: DO YOU WANT TO SCHEDULE AUTOMATIC AOL, please be smart and say “no”. Good luck to you out there!

Please remove me from this automtic AOL that sends mail that isn’t even written. The pop-ups would drive anyone to another carrier. Who’s in charge at AOL and why don’t they listen to their customers

I have located how to turn off AOL starting automatically. Sign on to your AOL. On the toolbar you’ll see SETTINGS. Go to the START UP SETTINGS. You’ll get a screen that will show you ENABLE FAST START. UNCHECK THIS. This should do the trick.

I just cancelled my Automatic AOL. This is how you do it:
1. Click the Mail menu, then click Set Up Automatic AOL.
2. Click the Schedule Automatic AOL icon.
3. Click the box next to the day which you want to cancel the scheduled session to clear it, then click the OK button. If you want to cancel all days, un-click all days.
4. Click the X button on the upper right of the Automatic AOL window to close it.

I had to uninstall AOL 9.0 and reinstall as I was unable to get on line using AOl and am having to read my aol mail via Internet Explorer. When I tried to sign on to the newly installed 9.0 they had given me a screen name of smithoct and I have no password for that screenname. My screen name is OctoberJo and I wish to continue using that screen name and my password which I have had for over ten years. Please tell me how I can get you people to reset my screen name from smithoct to OctoberJo and accept my password and allow me to sign on? I am getting very frustrated. Additionally, they have me on Broadband instead of DSL and that needs changing. Please HELP.

I use aol, so I pressed ctrl and K for aol keywords and typed in automatic aol. You then click on expert setup, then uncheck all the options, then go to scheduled automatic aol one of the icons on the keft, uncheck all the days then click on ok. It worked for me.

I too wish to be disconnected to Automatic AOL as it never seems to actually come on but a notice will come up saying that because we are already “on line”, AOL automatic could not function” or words to that effect.
Either “automatic AOL goes” or we go from AOL. Period.

RAKIRIKI

AOL in their wisdom have just scheduled “Automatic AOL” for me.
I didn’t ask for it, and it is an unwanted intrusion. Thanks to this website - I have found how to stop it. It is of little comfort to know how many other AOL users have complained - but why have AOL done this?

I also have a second intrusion which started about the same time. This is a “Search Screen” which overlays part of my working screen and has to be removed before I can continue working. Another AOL bonus? March 2009.

RIKI
