The Health insurance has to cover these bills for the newborn child, as far as I know.

Well, than the hospital which send you to that other hospital had the duty to check that, if it is their mistake, they have to pay for it. They just can’t let you rot in the gaps of bureaucracy.

A friend of mine had about $20,000 worth of medical bills after his appendix almost burst. He was pretty much broke at the time, and had no way to pay, so he applied for help from the state (Colorado). He was accepted for that, but then it turned out the hospital he had gone to didn’t work with that program.

I’m not sure exactly how it went, but after the hospital realized there was absolutely no way he’d be able to pay, they were willing to settle with him for literally pennies on the dollar, and he was able to pay over about a year’s time.
