I have a question about sweetcorn!
You know how when ever you go to the toilet and have a poo you find that any sweet corn you ate in lodged somewhere in there undigested? Well my question is if you was to eat only sweet corn for a week would you have a poo consisting of purely yellow sweetcorn? Also would you starve to death?

LOL!!!!!! I laughed till I cried!!!! ROFLMAO!!!!!
Thankyou, but you’re not much help. LOL. It’s an age old question that has been bugging me. Hmmmmmm…..
hmmm..i think no to the yellow poo. Surely you would start to digest some stored fat and i think that would add brown in to the mixture..certainly i believe there would be a yellow hue
as for dying of hunger..i don’t think you would..surely there are some nutritional benefits to sweetcorn?
Sorry I couldn’t help….
But they don’t seem to digest so wouldn’t you starve? I have the same question with reguards to peanuts!
Well apparently sweetcorn is a good source of folate. It is high in iron and potassium. It is also a good food for steadying blood sugar. It provides more starch and more calories than most vegetables. I think it’s only the outer skin that is undigestable..

Ah, so are you saying that i have to chew the sweetcorn to break the outer layer so i can digest the inner goodness????
not necessarily..sweetcorn isn’t completely covered in the outer layer..there’s a gap so the goodness could ooze out even if swallowed whole
I’ve done a little research: apparently the part that you see exit your body as part of your fecal matter is actually the part that the human digestive system can’t do much with, because we don’t have the enzymes (complicated proteins that the body creates) to break apart what the corn kernel covering is made of…some animals can, though. I think that maybe seeing the coverings not digested is what made you think that the whole corn kernel isn’t digested. The rest of the corn kernel (the interior stuff) is easily digestible by the human digestive system. The center part of the kernel is mainly starch (complex carbohydrate) and a little bit of protein…and a few vitamins and minerals. The human body then can absorb the breakdown products from the starch and protein, as well as the vitamins and minerals into the blood stream, where the materials can be delivered to the rest of the body tissues.
So, the end result is that, in order to get the maxiumum nutritional yield from the sweet corn you eat, make sure that it is well cooked and that you chew it well, so your digestive tract has the chance to ‘capture’ all the nutrients that it can from the corn.
WOW! That is extremely informative my good advisor friend!
I can now sleep easy tonight and wont have to go shopping for £100 worth of sweetcorn for my new crazy experimental diet!
hmm..if you really wanted yellow poo..you could eat alot of yellow marbles..or use road paint..that covers up cat poo quite well.
Anyhoo..i’m glad Splat.. I feel like i’ve really made a difference here tonight..take it easy ;)
well, u would be malnursed i think, and would be real hungrey cauz theres a layer on corn that stops it from being digested
I would have agreed with you not half an hour ago had it not been for ginseng and her expertise!
well, reading what she wrote if u cooked it real well i guess so, still u should eat more than 1 thing so u can cover ur nutritional bases
Yes but then it would have voided the experiment.
(i don’t think splat ever really intended on doing the experiment, i think it was more of an observation)
That is correct ginseng, but if Cookie Monster Owns wants to step up to the plate and do it in my stead i will give him every encouragement and my full support.
What a plate..i do love sweetcorn..imagine all the energy it takes to actually eat if off the cob though..like i’d say if you were to eat if off the cob you’d probably burn nearly as many calories as it provides!!
exactly! What a clever vegetable..oo is that a paradox right there..i do believe it very possibly could be! Goodnight help busters! :)
What an odd question….I don’t know and i can honestly say i don’t think i’ve ever thought about it. If you wanted to really know, you could probably ask your doctor
Hahahahahahaha - OMG did I laff … oh dear - oooooh too funny and yet informative too! hahahaha
no ginseng - no paradox
lol :)
hehehehe
ahahahah
ohohohoh
LMFAO!
What is the purpose of the shell?/outer layer? on the sweetcorn.. i’m not sure if it is called this but im doing a project on organic barriers for my art and design GCSE. Any facts about this is much appreciated… thankyou.
