what is freedom?

i think that it changes depending on where you live…i live in england and i see money as freedom…..but only when you have enough never to HAVE to work again

freedom means choice, as in personal liberty.
but it also means freedom “from” as in freedom from hunger.
(starving and free is not really free)
freedom through money can mean two things: freedom “from” bills and
freedom “to choose” (personal choice), since we live in a consumer society
freedom is as deep as you want to make it, and its “REAL” as real as a tree or rock.

“freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose”

seriously, having money is one kind of freedom, but then you are bound to society in that you dont want the banks to collapse etc. and you feel obligated to follow laws so that your money isnt taken away.

Being in prison is another kind of freedom - very few choices to make, food provided and so on.

i see freedom as when you don’t have to always ask your parents for money, you’re living in your own house etc.

freedom also means emotional stability and comfort. If you are plagued with a horde of emotional traumas and illnesses, you are not free.

do any of you have a feeling of being trapped?
i do because i need a job to stay alive and although i know everyone has to contribute, otherwise society would just collapse, i just dont want to!? im not sure what im trying to say!
example:
id like to travel but to do that you need money and to get money you need a job. you can either get a job first and save lots of money(which would take a while) or just travel and find jobs on the way..but then theres the whole stability and comfort thing that rookandpawn talks about.. and that would be lacking if i was worrying the whole time i was travelling about whether or not id find a job to be able to pay for my next meal.

i dont know i think the only way i could be free is to live in the forest and eat whatever i can catch! but then that would raise a lot of questions too! where would i meet other people without them going “look its the tramp from the forest RUN!” and stuff like that.hmmm dont answer that

but i do like the idea of nothing left to lose..but that would mean id have to lose everything first..and then it wouldnt feel like freedom.it would just feel like frustration at loosing everything and you would just want it back.
i think il just try and make lots of money.

Freedom i think is best defined in terms of its absence : You know when you aren’t free. We certainly know what isn’t freedom.

I think its *Very* hard to define freedom and yeah, try to make a good amount while you’re at it

Freedom as a word varies considerably with context. Political, social, personal and consumer domains of discourse all have vastly different uses of the word itself. Money allows a reasonable about of finacial freedom/independence, however social freedoms may conflict with financial freedom e.g. “I wan’t to be free to talk to my friend who is poor without feeling wierd but whenever we go to an expensive pub he feels uncomfortable with the cost of drinks, and with me offering to pay for them, and when I go to Weatherspoons I vomit on my shoes.”

The paradox of freedom is illustrated by the terrorist debate. Terrorists are enemies of freedom. Terrorists are freedom fighters.

freedom is being able to live your life without the bloody government making things difficult. sure they try to help but how much good have they done really. We live under there hand if they lay down a law we are trapped by it. I don’t call that freedom. Freedom is living with high morals in a world where government and crime can’t touch you and if you ever find that place i wouldn’t mind the directions

I think freedom is all of those things. It could also be inner freedom like free of grief and pain, or whatever it is that you’re going through. u could look at it as like God has given everyone a choice to follow him or not - like free will.

i dont know if anyone else ever felt like this in their life but when i was younger i used to wish all my family would just die or dissapear so i could just…i dunno i just wanted to start totally fresh i suppose..i was probably about 10years old when i first thought about stuff like that.
i ran away from home for the first time when i was about 10 aswell.
probably cos my mum always wanted to move house and it pissed me off having to go to new schools all the time…but that contradicts my earlier thought so in summary i guess im just confused!
id like to just run away now.. but dont for a few reasons:
i find it hard to eat most food
my friends wouldnt understand
money
wouldnt be able to get a job i enjoy as i have no qualifications.
wyas to solve it:
run away and be forced to eat food i dont like to stay alive
forget about friends
save up some money
go to school

**** im pissed off with everyone and me
