thanks, exactly. a lot of my ******* friends don’t understand and give bad—and obvious—advice b/c they have jobs and don’t understand how totally competitive the market is right now. thanks for ‘getting it’, i’m sick of ‘holier than thou’ people, thanks for knowing what it’s like and not being wrongly judgmental. :) hang in there you too!

What field are you looking into? Did you graduate from highschool? College? Any higher education after leaving highschool, any special training?

I have a Masters degree. It’s NOT a question of qualifications, skills or abilities, or even of not looking broad enough as to field…. HELLO that’s OBVIOUS stuff, please don’t even bring it up, as I have done it ALL. Two YEARS is a LONG TIME to improve on oneself, and I have used my connections and advice-gathering to the best of my abilities. It’s a smaller job market than it used to be, most H.R. people are MORONS, and nepotism gets jobs if you ask me. I’ve seen more people with LESS skill and intelligence get jobs that I can’t even get interviewed for…. that’s nepotism and insider-dealing if you ask me. What about us folks with no connections b/c we have crap families? We get screwed. I have a car. I live in a city (small, but a city all the same), I give great interviews and always get positive feedback, but i’m a white woman. Maybe THAT’S the problem. Too bad i’m not a minority or disabled, i’d have a job by now. This **** country.

i compltely agree… i think if i was black or disabled ( not being offensive here) i would have more of a chance.. im a white female also n companys tend to hire those of a minority so they dont get called racist…positive discrimination its called..and its well out of order!!!!

what country u from ?? you sound brittish lol x

I was simply asking, I wasnt sure if you were fresh out of highschool, in college, or have a degree. Look you might be right about a lot of that, but first off I think your attitude needs to change, if you think you need connections and dont have them, well get them. I havent even graduated yet and I have a couple different jobs that I have already been offered, I am white and a woman, and I am def. NOT rich by any means. But I got an internship and proved myself and they really liked me and saw what I could do. Through a job I had as a part-timer I was able to find out about openings elsewhere, I met people through where I worked. If you want and need connections then just open yourself up to more people. and please dont be picky about the advice you get because you never know when someone has something new to offer you, that is why you asked for help in the first place right? I am not by any means trying to shove it in your face, but I am just trying to say that being a white woman is not what is holding you back. You can think I am nieve, stupid, annoying, ignorant whatever, its not the first time I’ve been told this, but obviously there is a reason your not getting these jobs, and I think you might be missing the real reason. Experience and qualifications can only get you so far. Yes I know there are quotas and I do know that those with disablities and minorities do get jobs over someone elso who may or may not be more deserving. but you know what, you really do not know whether not those people are less deserving then you, I think you need a wake up call and realize that no offense but it probably is something you are doing, or something you are lacking. You might not want to hear it, but I said it. I dont know it all, I have a lot to learn. And I know I’ve ticked you off, but I was just trying to help in the beginning which apparently you didnt really want help, so I am sorry for the misunderstanding, and dont worry I know this is just going to become a slam fest against me so I wont say anything else. Say all you want but I am done. I am not an evil person, but I am just trying to be honest. I know you have been working your butt off, but maybe you need to re-evaluate and see what you can change, and dont look at other people look at yourself. Have a good day, and honestly from the bottom of my heart good luck, and I hope everything works out for you!

Swkershawna, No worries, apparently you have been reading some other internet folks who are rude, but that’s not me. I was simply trying to cut you off before you said the obvious stuff, which you did anyways, and for that I can tell you are young and naiive still. Still, also, I appreciate that you’re trying to help, but everything you said has been done. And obviously my attitude is being upset at the moment, not brought into interviews and yes, i’ve obviously had that highly analyzed over the past 2 years as well as I don’t see myself as ‘out of fault’ for losing these positions. Again, OBVIOUSLY. No offense here lady, but some of us want better jobs than internships and have already done that route and only got so far— (or really dull jobs that went no where). I’m good at using my connections, etc and being in the FINAL 2 at the interview rounds, but the other person I am in competition with is ALWAYS a minority if they are female, that’s a fact that I have personally witnessed. Not wanting to give those stereotypes too much credit, however, I have analyzed–over-analyzed–every other aspect of the interviews and myself. There’s no ‘wake up call’ b/c it’s not me that’s the problem, I have looked into that as well. I find it ironic that folks that don’t ‘get it’ like you point fingers at others who struggle as though it’s our fault when, in reality, it’s the market and the crap H.R. people. That’s what I think our friend Piper understands. I only hope that your privaledged life continues and you won’t ever have to understand us! :) Seriously!

exactly. and it’s not our fault. that’s what sucks. it’s not fair that we have to prove that we are socially acceptable and normal like our friends, just b/c the hiring managers go with someone else. that’s so not fair, rude, and ****** of people. I swear I will NEVER do it to my friends when they are out of work…. be a shitter like that girl that wrote me here. alas….. (sigh!) lol :)

Sorry, but while I might be somewhat nieve I still slightly disagree with your saying, the jobs I have been offered are not internships they are real jobs, with real pay and not crappy jobs, they are therapy positions. And next, I do NOT have a privaledged life, trust me, I’ve worked my butt off for everything, and am still struggling every day of my life, so dont pretend that you know me well enough to make such assumptions that I have a privaledge life, and if my life does continue like this I might have to bury myself a hole, but seriously I am no where near where I want to be in my life. Think what you want to think, but all I have to say is that obviously you’ve made up your mind, you know what the problem is, you have all the anwsers, so now what? Now that you know why your not getting hired what are you going to do about it? I am sorry I have to admit I thought I was done hear, but I let my pride get the best of me, just because I am younger then you and dont have as much experience does not mean that I dont know what I am talking about. Trust me, I know that I have a lot to learn, and I can be nieve about some things, and I might be nieve about this. I know things are unfair and I am sorry you are caught up in this, but what are you going to do about it? Also I felt bad because I dont want you to think I am saying that you are a bad person or underqualified, I can obviously see how much you want this certain job, and how hurt and upset you are that you cant get it, but whatever, forget everything I said. Here is what I really think, just dont give up, I know its hard, I know its frustrating, but dont give up. Oh, and I did not and do not have a privaledged life, I am blessed because I have an amazing husband, daughter, and friends, but my life is far from peachy. But thanks for the wishes, I am sorry I am sure I am taking this too far and you hate me even more. I am going to leave this at that, and I really do hope you find a job soon, dont get discouraged, ultimately there is a reason and you will find the path that you were meant to take. I better get off here for real. Have a great evening. I am sorry and i know this is a tense subject for you, and you probably are very sensitive to it, so go ahead and let it rip. I am sure your a hard worker, I am sure your dedicated to this profession, and I am sure you have done everything possible, and in that case, there is nothing more you can do but sit back and relax and wait for it to happen, or you can not give up and get pressing people and HR until you land that dream job. I am off of here, good night and good luck! Oh and I wasnt trying to point fingers at you saying it was your fault, I dont know you at all but there are a lot of people who think that they are the best, or their personal best and that they deserve this or that, when in reality they cant see the single flaw that could be keeping them from their dream job. Not everyone, and apparently not you, have that problem, you just have the bad hand right now, so I threw out the fact that maybe you could look at yourself and see if there is anything you could do differently. SOrry. I am sure my point was not taken the right way, and I am sorry that I said that since you do not fall under that group. Seriously-sorry. I dont know who you are, obviously you are in the small group that actually gives 120%. seriously I am not being mean or anything, I admit I am wrong. Sorry.

That’s cool, thanks for understanding swkershawna. I know there are a lot of unemployed and lazy douche-bags out there giving the rest of us unemployed-and-looking folks a bad rap, but rest assured, the quiet majority of us are trying our best in a tight, highly competitive market. I appreciate your sense of things, and I wish I was in your position!! :) The student loans loom……….

HR are people are such morons. They are typical business idiots! They always pick up on some new nonsense jargon. They all think the word “incumbent” means “the guy coming into a position”. It means the person already in the position!!! I keep seeing this in job ads everywhere. They might as well just state that they are idiots in the ad. For example “The preferred incumbent for this position would have an interest or aptitude in music”. The idiots are so happy to learn a new fancy word, except they never actually learn it!!!
All HR departments do is screw up companies.
