I think I’m sick .
. .
Really sick. In any case, I’ve had some symptoms of mono for a few months now, but they won’t go away no matter how much I rest. I don’t have all of the symptoms–like, I have lymph node swelling (but no spleen swelling), fatigue, fever, aches (mostly in my joints), and weakness. But I don’t have the sore throat, and not all of my nodes are swollen.
Now, ever since I moved to a different apartment, every time I wake up I have a fever. I don’t know exactly how high it is, but I can tell because my ears are really hot to the touch and so are my forehead and cheeks. I also have allergies and asthma (as well as a heart arrythmia), but they haven’t been giving me as many problems lately because I’m on a lot of medicine. But even with all the medicine I still have occasional itchy eyes, burning nose, etc. I get these really weird sores in my mouth every once in a while too, and I don’t have any idea where they come from. And, finally, I’m pretty severely depressed at the moment. -_-;
I feel like my doctor knows something that I don’t about what’s wrong with me. I can tell she thinks it’s weird that I don’t have all the symptoms of mono and that I’ve had it so long. But I don’t know what to ask her about. I don’t even know if there’s something seriously amiss or not. What should I do?
(Also, sorry for not being around for a while. :D I’ve been moving and sick on top of it. ^_^’)

I’ve experienced something like that before! Every morning I would wake up and my throat would hurt, I was always fatigued no matter how much I rested, I had swollen lymph nodes, and for a while, unexplained pain throughout my body.oh and the sores in the mouth that made me think it was an infection. A large part of it I think was from this severe depression I was in (the random pain), as for the other things, I’m not really sure what it was I think it was a really bad case of mono paired with anemia.
Maybe try getting a second opinion from a different doctor. I never really sought serious medical attention and got better but after a long long time. Maybe also try taking some vitamins and getting out and doing stuff that’s fun and active.
Last december I had the sores again really bad but I went to the doctor and they said it was an aggressive infection and prescribed strong medication. It went away for the most part.
good luck to you!!!
Did you start having all these symptoms after you had moved into your new appartment? Maybe your new appartment is an unhealthy place to live in. There could be mildew in some places or something else making you sick in there. It happened to me once. For the whole time I lived in this appartment (1½ year), I got the flu 8 times. I would be sick for about 1½ month and then get a break for a month and so on… When I finally moved out of there, I didn’t get the flu for at least 2 years. I hardly ever get sick anymore! Talk to your doctor about that possibility.
soyinfinita: The thing that really bothers me is that I don’t have all the symptoms of it, so the doctors were never sure whether I had it or not. :( I’ll try to get a second opinion (or induce her to be more open), though; I think that’s a good idea.
Also, sorry to everyone but I forgot to mention that those meds also included multivitamins, and I’ve been getting stuffed full of fruits and veggies by my roomies and husband. ^^’ My bad, I’m sorry!
Heather Marie: If you feel like it would help to look up my symptoms I’d be so grateful, but I don’t want to impose. I know it would probably take a long time, and you’re right, it’s a doctor’s job. Thank you for the advice; I’ll get in touch with my doctor ASAP.
Marylou62: They actually started the morning before I moved; I woke up the morning of and had a fever. :( Maybe something I packed has something to do with it. I’ll mention the possibility to my doctor, thanks!
Swollen lymph nodes should always be investigated, not overlooked. What is your doctor doing to discover the cause?
candp: The doctors I saw came to the conclusion that it was mono based on some of my other symptoms (aches, fever, and fatigue mostly), though they couldn’t tell whether my spleen was swollen or not at the time because I was too ticklish that day. I went in to get checked out again often, and since then it’s been determined that my spleen isn’t swollen, and that only my anterior lymph nodes are swollen. *Shrug* I can tell my doctor thinks it’s weird. I think so, anyway. The exchange basically went like this:
Doctor: “How are you feeling?”
Me: “Still sick. I feel fatigued.”
Doctor: “Does your throat hurt?”
Me: “No, not at all.”
Doctor: (frown) “Are your lymph nodes still swollen?”
She checked my lymph nodes and found out they still were.
Doctor: “Hmm, the back lymph nodes aren’t swollen. Is your spleen swollen?”
Me: “I don’t know, we were never able to check that.”
Doctor: “Seriously? Well, let’s try again.”
(about 30 minutes of tickling here before I was able to settle down, lol)
Doctor: “Huh. It’s not swollen. What are your other symptoms?”
At that point I told her the symptoms and she thought for a moment. Then she told me that I would probably have a lot of different symptoms due to mono, but she didn’t sound very sure. :-/ I guess I’ll need to go back and talk to her again about it more aggressively.
Heather Marie: The strange thing is, only the front lymph nodes in my neck are swollen. The spleen is a node as well, but it’s not swollen, and neither are the other lymph nodes in my neck (the doctor mentioned posterior lymph nodes not being swollen?). I haven’t had any problems with my limbs swelling, just joint pain and the like. But thank you, I think it’s good to look at all of the options. Thanks so much for taking so much time to help me. *hug*

Thank you so much, guys. It means a lot. :)
What are canker sores?
Canker sores are shallow, painful sores in your mouth. They are usually red or may sometimes have a white coating over them. You might get them on the inside of your lips, the insides of your cheeks, the base of your gums or under your tongue. Canker sores are different from fever blisters, which usually are on the outside of your lips or the corners of your mouth.
Anyone can get canker sores, but women people in their teens and 20s get them more often. Canker sores may run in families, but they aren’t contagious. Doctors don’t know what causes canker sores, but they may be triggered by stress, poor nutrition, food allergies and menstrual periods.

Okay, so canker sores are probably confirmed. ^_^ That makes me feel a little better. I’d have to talk to a doctor about the other ones, but at least I have something to go on now. :) Thank you. *Hug*
no problem. i hope you feel better soon. odaijini, ne. *hug*
hai, anata mo ki wo tsukete ne. ^_^
ahhh.. if you just moved in to your appartment, have it checked for mold. I read a lot of magazines and a read a story about someone who was real sick for like 2 years and no one knew what was wrong with her and she found out years later it was from mold
oh ya sumi na sai. mata ashi ta
sou ne :) oyasuminasai~
I am allergic to mold, but the apartment I live in has been occupied by roommates and gets regular code inspections. ;) Plus, they’re very clean people, and the environment doesn’t smell like mold; having lived in the mold capital of the world (an old hospital that had it growing from the ceilings! yuck!), I know this. Thanks for the advice, though. :)
Everybody: Oyasumi. ^_^ I’m off to bed. Mata na.
On the days previous move into the new place had you been there cleaning and getting ready for your move in? Do you live in a high humidity area that is notable for mold and mildew? And my last question…do you spend a good deal of time out doors (i.e. camping)?
I did do some cleaning, but I was also on heavy allergy meds at the time. (10 mg Loratidine 1/day, 25 mg Benadryl 1/night, pseudoephedrin [not exactly sure how much, but 2 pills about every 4-6 hours], and in this case, a little bit of Day-Quil.)
I guess I’m just saying, I know what an allergy infection feels like, and this is not an allergy infection. For one thing, they don’t cause me fevers like this. And it’s lasting a lot longer than an infection should . . . by now it would have run its course, and become either bronchitis or an upper respiratory infection. :-/ I appreciate the suggestion, but just know (everybody, please lol) that I’m relatively certain it’s not allergies. ;)
I don’t spend a lot of time outside, though. I’m generally too sick to go anywhere. :( I’m planning on visiting a doctor ASAP about this.
Though I realize you don’t feel this is allergies, I assume that you know that after a particularly severe allergy attack you can run into secondary infection. What comes to mind is a fungal lung infection with symptoms of night sweats, chills, coughing, shortness of breath (and possible drop in your SaO²). An untreated lung infection can lead to use of O² as well as long term medication and breathing treatments. Please don’t put it off any longer and see you physician. Your symptoms are very concerning.
Well, I was hoping to answer this thread with a diagnosis from my doctor, but I can’t see her for time undetermined at the moment. :( 2bears, I think your suggestion may be correct, but it makes me worried. The thought of having something like that in my body and not being able to do something about it immediately is really scary. :( :( :(
Have you noticed diminished symptoms or are your symptoms continual? I’m wondering if you may have an immunodeficiency in which case your immune system would not allow your body to heal. I still wish you could see your health care provider about this when you can.
The symptoms are continual. :( I have, in fact, been diagnosed with mono for at least six months, but when I went in to get checked out, I’d been feeling bad for a long time before. It surprised me that they diagnosed me with mono, because the problem I came in for was a sinus infection and they diagnosed it and the mono. :/
The only immunodeficiency I’m aware of is the one that comes with AIDS, but I’m reasonably certain that I’m not HIV-positive. Are there any others I can ask about?
And, I went to the clinic I normally go to yesterday, but my doctor wasn’t in. I instead saw a doctor that said that it might be hormones (as in, menopause-like symptoms), but I’m only 19! She also mentioned the possibility of a carbon monoxide leak in the new building, even though my symptoms started before I moved. o.O She told me to go get bloodwork done, but she didn’t listen to my heart, check my blood pressure, listen to my breathing, or anything like that. And like I said, it’s been six months since I was diagnosed with mono, but no one’s talking to me about it. I’m going to go get bloodwork done just because it’s better to be safe than sorry, but I’m going to have to go back and see my actual doctor . . . She listens a lot better to me. I just don’t know when she’ll be in. :( I’ll be going in again today; I’ll let you know how it goes. Thanks for offering some possibilities to talk to my doctor about–it really helps. (I just wish I could get to the doctor who actually listens to me!)
Honey if you find a physician who actually listens to what you have to say and is interested in your input, you need to let the world know :-) I have been in the healh care field in one capacity or another my entire adult life and I can count on one hand the number of physicians who want their patient’s to be involved in their own care. With the symptoms that you currently have, there are so many possibilities, however, I have known patient’s to have active Mono for up to a full year (though it isn’t the norm). If your immune system is not up to par it could very well take you longer to recover. By the way, just because I suggested a possible immuno deficiency, I was in no way implying HIV virus. Your immune system may just need to be boosted. I wish you the best of luck. Don’t forget, if you find that rarity (the physician who listens) let us all know.
Well, I went in to see my doctor the other day, and we were able to rule out problems with my lungs (thank the gods). But we think it might be some kind of autoimmune disorder. I’ve started a new thread in case anybody wants to follow it. http://help.com/post/76909-i-think-i-…
I’m so glad you finally made it to the office though I am sorry to hear it may be an autoimmune problem. At least you’re finally making headway. Good luck and keep in touch!
