I’ve been over there. I think it’s great…and I have lived outside the country before. It is different, but that is what is great about it. Why so scared?

I lived not far from Lakenheath for about 30 years - what do you want to know? I’ll try and help you if I can….and as for buying new appliances, for some of them could you not just buy adapter plugs which fit into our sockets and you just plug your appliances straight in? It would be alot cheaper than buying all new stuff! If you need to know any thing about the area just let me know and I’ll see what I can do for you…would like to help if I can!

I just moved back from RAF Lakenheath 3 years ago!!! We didn’t live in base housing though we lived in Thetford. It’s a much nicer neighborhood and the houses are bigger. The base will provide a transformer for you to use for some appliances. You get it from FMO or whatever, the place where you get loaner furniture.

No problems…the adapters to buy over here are about 3 pounds each (about $5.50) so they’re not too expensive, but if Itsy says you can get them from the base they might be cheaper? Any of the villages around Lakenheath are lovely, but if you want a town then Brandon or Mildenhall are probably your best bets…try www.mildenhall-estateagents.co.uk, www.wheresmyproperty.com/towns/Suffolk/mildenhall.htm,
www.brandon-estateagents.co.uk,
www.findaproperty.com

They all seem to have quite a few properties in the two towns and surrounding areas, so you may find something suitable?

Both towns are only a 20 minute or so drive from Lakenheath, and as far as I know they have good bus services too, so getting around isn’t a problem.

Not really sure what else I can help you with, not having been in the military environment - for that side of stuff it sounds like Itsy would be the one to help, but having lived in the UK all my life and as I said in that area for a good few years I can probably help with that side of things more!

Hope what I’ve said helps - anything else you need to know just ask!

Good Luck!

H x
