A question about immigration, Visas and the U.S.

. . .

Anyone here know how to go about getting someone who wants to live in the U.S. a one year Visa? I know about making them a permanent resident later, im just curious how you go about getting the Visa so they can work in the US and such before too long, and so they can stay for a year. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

I’m not sure, but work Visa’s have to be sponsored by a work place, and I doubt they’re cheap. I could be totally wrong though — I really have little experience with this :/

This is one thing I might try: Have the person come in on a tourist visa, which are easy to get. They can always apply for a change in visa status once they get here. Besides, it will be a lot easier to work with the appropriate agencies once they are here in person. Additionally, they will be able to scour the area and scout around for employers who would be willing to sponser them for a work visa. Again, this is so much easier to do in person.

To get a working visa in Canada, I know that the person who wants to come must have the right educational backround for the field they are going to be working in, and the company must prove they looked in Canada first. It’s pretty tricky to get one. They can’t just come and start looking for a job, they have to have had one offered to them, basically, to get the visa.

I’ve told Ditz all I know about this. The information I found useful was on this site: http://www.evanswallace.com/emigrate-… which reads:

If you are looking to live and work in the USA, on a temporary or permanent basis, you must qualify under one of the many different visa categories.

Generally, if you wish to remain in the USA on a long term basis there are three ways of doing so:
Immigration based on your family relatives

Immigration based on employment

Immigration based on Investment

Check out the site for more info. Good Luck!
