Love help: To be or not to be… - Help.com

To be or not to be…

… that’s quite a question, isn’t it? Yeah, Shakespeare put it in a right way. Be or not be.

Actually, that’s what I am asking myself, too. There is exactly one point I try to figure out.

I think most guys of you know what Gothics are. Yeah. I am not going to be judgemental here, I don’t have the right to do so. So if you are gothic, relax.

Let me get to my point here: I love the gothic scene. I love their Music, their style, their philosophie. I love hanging out with them, and actually, some of my best buddies back home are goth.

BUT:

I’ve never been that goth-guy. And god, I wanted to be that. I didn’t have a goth-jacket! I wear a business-pinstripe-jacket. I never had that hairstyle - 1. because of my job - I have to look serious, 2. with my recieding hairline it would look ridiculous. Black has always been my favorite colour.

I am now in a new country. I know some spots to go to. But every time I think about going there, I think I would look deplaced. I don’t think I might fit in.

What to do? No idea. I might just be a dork thinking about that…

You could at least try going there and seeing what it is like one time. If you don’t fit in or don’t like it just leave and not go back.

Well, this is too important to me for just trying. I must succeed…

How can you succeed if you never try? If you refuse to try then you automatically fail.

Goth is about inner beauty, and outwardly expressing the inner.

Goth is intelligence and creativity, and seeking the beauty in the world around us, and in others.

Goth does not hate, but avoids selfishness and belligerence.

Goth is not about being accepted, it’s about wanting to be with beautiful souls.

Goth may seem dark, but it is about freely exploring how we can shine light on the world.

Goth is clean in body, mind and soul.

Goth is Geisha in it’s artistry for both men and women, but not subservient or superior in attitude.

Goth is about sincere appreciation.

You say you appreciate “their” this-and-that. What do you want to make yours?

Get yourself in black and pewter (or other white metals). I personally start with unique, well-made shoes, and build up an outfit around that. You can pick one thing that works well for you, and do the same. Care to share a pic of yourself?

It is about “trying.” It is about caring about the details and finding what works for you. If you look better in something tailored, great, go for a sharper, cleaner look. Choose the materials that fit the scene, and the cut that fits you.

If you try to fail and you succeed, have you had success or failure?

Good question, adrianna, but that early in the morning I am unable to answer that.

IF you want to go to one of those places and you go there and you like it, who cares what other people think. If you see people staring at you, just look at them and wave or something. What does it matter what they think of you? They don’t even know you. You shouldn’t miss out on life because you’re worried what other people are gonna think or you’ll look dumb. What does it really matter? As long as you’re having fun doing what you’re interested in and what you like to do you’re the one that’s benefiting from the experience.
