Computer Related Question.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to switch the touchpad mouse off (on a laptop) but to leave the usb plugged in mouse working? I’ve tried to switch the touchpad off but that also stops the usb mouse working. (my touchpad mouse has a mind of it’s own and it’s driving me crazy). Thanks in advance.

Where were you?

doesnt ur mouse work fine without turning off ur pad, i honestly dont think you can turn off the pad.
How is it bothering you ?
The touchpad on the laptop really has a mind of it’s own. Sometimes it will just slide the cursor off to the side and takes forever to find it and stop it sliding around (if the laptop isn’t completely flat it’s even worse). The usb mouse works fine but the touchpad mouse is in the way.
oh lol thats weird !!
well i did some reserach and testing on my laptop and i figured it out for u !!
every laptop has a POINTING DEVICE icon on the bottom right hand in the takstray. the logo is a touchpad pic. you can right click that and gooto properties.
OR go to your control panel ! and from there click mouse .
Then flip through your tabs and try to find a DISABLE BUTTON. Mine was located under DEVICE SETTINGS .
DEVICE SETTINGS: highlight the touchpad which should say ENABLED or YES under enabled column
- click disable
btw mine was called: SYNAPTICS TOUCHPAD
Tell me how it goes
Thanks. yes, i’ve tired that (and again just now). Mine is under Touch, says Disable this device, but if I click it it wont let me use the USB plugged in mouse either. Any other ideas?
The only viable solution I was able to find is to cover the touchpad with a business card or similar heavy stock paper. If the cursor is moving on it’s own fruition, this won’t eliminate that from happening.
The other item I found was to somehow remove the PS2 mouse from the configuration, but then you’re stuck using a serial mouse (if they still make one).
The mouse moves on it’s own accord (connected to the touchpad). So if the computer is at an angle it slides in that direction. (very very annoying!)But then it takes forever to get right again.
i found you a software , i think it is free: give it a try

update me !
Yeah, just don’t load the drivers for the touchpad.
bex, did the software work ?
I chickened out in the end and didn’t install it. It said it was only a trial and then it would be $20. Instead I smacked the touchpad really hard and that seemed to stop it messing about for the time being. Haha! I’m hoping to get a new laptop soon, so I think i’ll just put up with it for now. Thanks for trying though.
hahahaa np, ye the best solution is to smack, i do it all the time and it works. my satellite was giving me issues last nite it would jsut freeze so i just smacked it hard afterthe 6 / 7 th time lol , it learned its lesson not toofreeze on me :P
but its good ur getting a new laptop, that should be fun, hope u dont get stuck like i did lol on specs :P

What I said in a previous post, you are going to have keep the drives for your “Touch Pad” from loading at boot up time. Then have your external mouse drives load at boot up time.
Thanks Techtype, that may seem simple enough for you but I’d have no idea where to start and I’d worry about doing more harm than good.
