From reading several law websites, this is the information I’ve gathered:

The state of Tennessee does not have emancipation statues and therefore does not have a way to file for emancipation.

I don’t understand why you do not have your freedom.

Emancipation, is when a minor ‘divorces’ their parents and becomes a legal adult, before the legal statues for the state deems them to be an adult (age of 18, graduated from high school or out of college, which ever comes first depending on your state of residency.) Not like emancipation from slavery.

Emancipation is when a minor (someone under the age of 18) is freed from their legal guardian or parent. Giving them the ability to: live on their own, make and keep their own money, etc. This also makes it so that the guardian or parent is no longer financially responcible for the minor child. However, the state of Tennessee does not have the legal statues in place to make it so that a minor can “divorce” their parents.

There may however be a possiblity that they can get married or join the military to free themselves from their legal guardian.

No state in America will give you the right to go and live on your own without some kind of leagal guardian. How old are you?

Are you being abused or neglected? It is very difficult to answer your questions when I have nothing to go on. You understand? I’m sorry if I am of no help. My best advise would to seek leagal counsel. Sorry again.

What part of TN are you in? What’s going on that you want to get out on your own so bad? Living on you own is so hard. You don’t have anyone there to help you out when you need it. I am not trying to talk you out of it, but how are you going to afford rent, food, utilities, and other stuff? Trust me, it’s not easy I am doing it right now. I’m sure there is help around you for whatever problem you are going thru. Hopefully, you are close to east TN so I can help you out more.

Is there a way for me to get emancipated if I live in Memphis? Yes or no? If so, how would I go about doing this?

Tennessee Does Not Have An Emancipation Statue, Period. You Cannot Get Emancipated. You Can Illegally Live On Your Own Or With A Friend If Your Parents Signs A Paper, Written By You, That Says They Will Not File For A Runaway. You Can Get A Job And Save Your Money, Ect. I’ve been Doing This For About A Year. It’s Way Better Than Being Tied Down.

In TN, you can become legally emancipated at the age of 16 if you have a job and can pay for housing, food, utilities, etc. You go to see a juvenile judge and file for the petition. If your parents agree and the judge grants it so, your goOd to go.

I’m not trying to get out on my own I’m 30yrs. old. My niece is the one that needs the help. She has went to police, talked to therapist, and been into and talked to many foster homes and families. She has been put back into her fathers custody now for about six years and has made many complaints and has many photos of abuse. She fixing to graduate High School in May. She turns 18 in July. Is there any way that she can leave and come back to her home. Where I live it really isn’t whats right or wrong it’s who you know. What to do????
