It depends on what kind of MP3 player you have. Most come with software to facilitate loading music on to it. I have a Razor phone, and I use Motorolla’s Phone Tools to copy MP3s to it. I can also use media player by mounting the memory card in a card reader, and copying files straight to it. The max bit rate is 64k though. If you have files ripped at a higher bit rate the phone won’t play them. That’s an issue specific to my device, but being that you are asking the general question I figured I’d throw that out there for consideration.

just as the previouse responder said you need a software that will convert the music to MP3. I use Nero. There are many others that can. Your mp3 should have come with software that they use.
