friends help: I hate exercise. - Help.com

I hate exercise.

SO much.

It’s not that I hate the activities or the sweat, or the smell. I just hate doing it. It seems tedious, NOT fun, and a waste of time. I am the type of person who hates to do something like that just to do it, I wont walk if there’s no where to go, same with biking etc.

Problem is, I need to lose weight and I need to exercise. But just the thought of exercise sends me into a mood. When I get advice from friends or family members that the only way to lose the stubborn pounds is to start working out I get pissed off at them.

Exercise is also painful for me, which is another reason I avoid it as much as possible. I am not physically fit, but I’m also not unable to work out. When I run, my legs hurt and my chest burns, no pain no gain but, the pain is not worth the results in my eyes (I’m also impatient). I like to swim, but have no means of going swimming regularly (as a workout) I don’t like exercise machines, I am not interested in gaining muscle.

I am at a loss of what to do, is there anyway I can get over the fact I utterly despise working out without actually just sucking up and doing it (because I know I will not do that)

Help!

Exercise for the sake of exercise can certainly be mind numbing. The trick is to find something that’s active that you like to do!

You mentioned swimming…make it happen!

Try walking in a neighborhood with a friend.
Dont try running. Maybe your not where you want to be at in your body but working it too hard may have severe consequences.
Try warming up and cooling down before you start doing things like swimming or running/walking.
I also hate exercise. But when i go swimming I try to swim short laps then long laps.
Same with running or walking.
Try shorter ways.
Then gradually go to longer ways.
Try to eat healthier also.
Make goals for yourself also.
Like if you walk 1 mile then go to the movies. [[something like that]]

Good luck.

Try rollerblading. It’s lots of fun and you’ll get exercise out of it too. Look for a local street skating community and you’ll make some friends at the same time, which will encourage you to go more because you’ll want to see them more too :)

Well if you don’t like exercise, find ways to maximize your fat burning. Make sure you are drinking tons of water. Take a Vitamin C suppliment of 500 Mg…this will help your bodies ability to burn fat. When you do have to go somewhere walk there, then you will have a purpose to walking. Get a partner who will help motivate you ad vice versa. If running hurts, then DO NOT do it. Try using an eliptical machine. Those are easy on the body. Try improving your diet a little. Cut out extra sugar, and this in itself is usually enough to help most people. Lastly, stop making excuses. Obviously you want to lose weight a little bit, or else you wouldn’t have posted this here. So either stop making excuses and start looking after yourself, or don’t ask for help anymore and just keep on doing what you always have been doing.

well most definatly dont starve yourself. starving yourself actually slows down your metabolism and doesnt help you lose weight. you have to lose 3,500 calories to lose one pound. and your daily diet is 2,500 pounds. i dont work out to tell you the truth. i hate it, so im trying to encourage myself & others to start. i am fifteen years old, and i keep gaining weight. but enough about me, i pumped to help you out. what i’ve been told is to treat yourself, say you want something really bad, then say no to it and save it and say if i walk everyday for 2 weeks, i can get it. that can be a two weeks goal :] i hope i helped you somewhat. i hope i am helping myself too, have fun!
