My question is about the words “technique” and “theme” in art.

I’m going to PCAE this fall and I need to work on and grow with a technique/theme. I need some examples of these words used in art please.

technique-the manner and ability with which an artist, writer, dancer, athlete, or the like employs the technical skills of a particular art or field of endeavor

theme-a subject of discourse, discussion, meditation, or composition; topic: The need for world peace was the theme of the meeting.

If you were painting a picture, the way the (brush stroke) brush was applied to the canvas would be the technique and what the painting is about would the the theme.

This site will lead you to many artist sites where you can read the techniques for painting or drawing and also get great mainstream themes.
