Thats a tough one. I am often easily distracted during my job. Sometimes it has to do with organization. The way you are set up in your job space may have something to do with it. Also if you are subjected to a lot of noise …that might be a problem. If it is the noise we all sometimes get in our minds while working things out you may want to resolve those issues outside of your job to some degree so that you can really focus on the task at hand.

Another thing I know some friends do is exercise before work. They get up early and run or swim before they go to work rather than after work. This gives your body a chance to fire itself up and cool itself down so you can settle into something in a more relaxed state or with a more calm and focused frame of mind.

Hope you find something that helps! :)

That sounds like stress; when in the early stages of getting settled into a new job, things can often be moment to moment. It takes time to adjust.

After a while prioritize, arrange your work for the day where you can see it.

After the completion of each task, tick the item off the list.

If others choose to talk to you and you have difficulty focusing, say politely that
you could loose your job if your work is unsatisfactory.

If it is just too loud, try ear plugs. I did that one time and it works. It also points out to everyone that you are committed to the tasks at hand.

I don’t know if its possible, but could you play a little instrumental jazz? That really calms you down, focuses your thoughts, and makes it easy for everyone to work, although that might not be acceptible to your collegues. Perhaps a CD and earphones would work better.

Not knowing the circumstances, I hope an idea or two will help.

Listening to music - that is a great suggestion “Ihavepeace.” I also find that hooking up to an iPod and listening to some mellow upbeat jazz helps me to focus.

People learn better in differnt ways. Some people are audio… some are visual, some are tactile. Tactile learners have a rough time of it. These are the learners that most oftenly are misdiagnosed as having ADD or ADHD. These are the learners that like to learn ‘hands on’. They almost need to. These are the learners that pace when thinking… These learners often appear nervous or figitie in a “normal” class environment. Put them in the science lab… or art and they EXCEL!!! In that “normal” environment a couple of tips would be to give them a squeeze ball… for the youngsters, not a toy that will distract, but just a ball to squeeze. If you are a tactile learner, you will find yourself able to pay closer attention because your hand is busy squeezing. Another tool, is using an air donut to sit on. This works most with kids cause they don’t want to stay seated… well with an air donut the get to sit down, yet still wiggle around a little. Research “Learning Style” and you’ll discover quite a bit of information.
Bright blessings~
Richard

i’ve never been able to focus very well. ever since i was little, my parents had to stick me in a dark little desk in my room to do my homework. but when everyone was gone, i’d fascinate myself by opening and closing the drawers and rearranging pens and flipping through a dictionary. they literally needed to put me in a blank empty room or something…

*goes to read the advice*
