The sound on my computer just turns off, and i have to restart it to get it back on.

When i do that though it really only last for nine minutes to maybe a little over an hour. my friend suggested i need to do a system recovery or to a place that could fix it internally… so what should i do?

Are they external speakers? You’re talking about playing mp3 files and stuff like that? Gone are the days when we needed soundcards, so the problem might be on your motherboard. You could have an overheating chip. You might open your case to check it is all dust free and not clogged up anywhere, and the fans are all working.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card, which you should be able to find on the card manufacturer’s website. That usually fixes most problems.

You should uninstall the sound drivers and install again. But only when You have found your driver CD.

there are probably some types of viruses that do these things delierately to annoy you- or someone may have installed a joke program. I know that some websites offer free joke *.exes to stop certain features working. for a while

I had the same problem, and it turned out that the mother board was getting worn out, the sound system cutting out is the first symptom of this problem. Back up your files and get your computer checked out. Maybe you just need a soundsystem with software that is compatable with the latest player software.

I am having the same problem. I checked for viruses several times with several softwares and I can’t still find the **** reason. I think there is something wrong with the motherboard. When I restart the computer, everything goes back to normal, and sometimes when start to open the folders containing .mp3(etc) files, the ******* sound goes off.

Yesterday I encountered the very same problem. I’m playing a movie and suddenly the sound gets softer and softer. I opened the sound controls and i could see the slide going down slowly as if someone was playing with it. every time i push it back up, it goes down on its own. I stopped the internet connection and the problem stopped too. It seems somebody is hacking to my system and my firewall, antivirus and other safety measures are not working at all against it. How i wish i could find out whats really happening so i can apply a permanent fix

I’ve been having the same problem for 2-3 years now and I’ve been searching the web and the jungles of amazon for a good answer, but couldn’t find any. I don’t want to change the soundcard and I’ve got updated drivers (as my system says). All I get here is stupid answers (like everywhere else) and here one guy said “gone are the days when we needed soundcards.” Just now as I was going to restart my PC, the sound returned after 5 minutes.
