i know that, as far as paper work though..im only 19 i’ve never done it before.
What country and or state do you live in? it could be relevant.
I am unfamiliar with your procedures. Until you get a more detailed reply from someone in your state or someone who knows, I would look on your “pink slip”??? and see if it says anything on there about what has to be filled in and where it has to be sent to etc.
There should be a NC state webpage for people registering cars (this is actually directed to your buyer not you). Most of them say you need to give him a “bill of sale” with all the relevant information of the sale that says “I___ sell ____ car______ for ___money etc etc (you can google bill of sale) along with the title, signed over to him on the back of it. If you don’t have your title, that is the first step in selling the car. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE CASH OR MAKE SURE THE CHECK IS ABSOLUTELY CLEAR BEFORE YOU GIVE HIM THE KEY. (even if it is a friend) All the other stuff is up to the buyer.
drive it on some corner with a for sale sign on with phone number and price do it every day till sold….
Generally, for a private sale you would need a bill of sale (include year, make, model, mileage, color, and body type. You may also want to specify ‘As Is, As Shown’ or something similar). Also, on the back of the title there will be an odometer statement and a place for the new owner’s name and address, as well as a place for both the buyer and seller to sign. Be sure you keep a copy of the bill of sale!
You should be able to find more information online, or you may be able to call your local DMV to have them walk you through the process.
In UK we write - (when we rarely do make out a bill of sale that is) -
“Sold as seen and without warranty as to condition”
