unix is not a program it is an Operating System. Mac OS X and Linux are examples of unix type OS’s.

If you are interested in writing python. It’s best to write it in a Linux environment. http://kubuntu.org/ is a live Linux distribution in the terms that you burn Linux on CD and you reboot your computer and it’ll run Linux from that CD. Python is usually installed by default and you can just open up the command prompt, type python, and you’ll be on your way to coding python. When you are done, reboot, and eject the CD and you’ll boot into your regular Operating System (probably windows).

You can also get web hosting on a Unix or Linux platform, which will allow you to upload and run Python scripts, if that feature is enabled.
