I hate freaking migranes.

They are such a pain in the butt. I get them like 3 a week, but thats better than what I use to get them (6-7 times a week) No medications work for me, and i’ve got an MRI and blood and everything, but they never mind anything wrong. Will I grow out of these? I’ve had them for 8 years…

Does anyone else here have migranes, and if so, how do you deal with them? What are your sensitives when you get them (light, sound ect)… Thanks :)

Have you tracked what usually happens during the previous evening and then morning just before you get the migraine?

Specifically what you ate and its sugar content, how you felt emotionally, what activities you engaged in socially.

I’ve had migraines for years. Got all sorts of tests done, tried all sorts of meds, nothing helped. Want to know what finally helped? Ok….building suspense….

getting away from the computer a little bit more. It was getting away from the computer a little bit and things like shoulder rolls and massages. My migraines were mostly being caused from muscle tension. You might as well try stretching, maybe massages and don’t spend too much time at the computer without standing up and moving around a bit.

I get migraines once in a while generally from poor lighting, using a computer, or too much pressure (listening to skype online with headphones)…I get violently ill, feel like I’m dying…cover my face with a sleep mask—and blackout.

I have migranes too but once I found out what my triggers were. I’ve been able to keep them under control. I’ve found that chocolate (esp before that time of the month), cheese, processed foods, MSG, ripe bananas, stress and lack of sleep sets them off. If I have one I take 10mg of Maxalt. Usually the medicine works. Sometimes it doesn’t. Really bad ones make me feel nauseated, blur my vision and my head hurts so bad I can’t even lay it down. Have you been to a neurologist???

Yeah, I got a scan and everything. MSG bothers me too, stress and chocolate (even though I still love it). I get very sensitive to light, espically if it is night time, and the TV or any lights are on. If I don’t take anything, eventually I get really sick.

yeah i get them real bad for about 5 years now and getting worse. my nero calls them suicide headaches cuz they are 10x worse then migranes. and there has been patients that have killed themselves cuz of their headaches. my headaches get so bad that i have to go to the ER and get an IV. and be there for about 4-6 hours.its like haveing a major brain freeze from drinking an icee to fast. but i found that chocolate is a major trigger and it sucks cuz i LOVE chocolate!! and being out in the sun is another trigger. i heard that milk could also b a trigger. but i havent done the trial and research on that yet.

I’ve been getting migraines since I was 21 & now I’m 32. My triggers are stress, little sleep, caffine, bright lights, eye strain… and how I deal with it is that I take midrin & have to lay down in a dark room. My husband also rubs my head which helps a lot.

I too suffer from Migranes - for the last 10 years or so, had all the tests, changed the diet to exclude all the c’s - chocolate, cheese, coffee & coke - made no difference. Am now on a schedule 5 drug and am luck if it works, so land up on a drip with some kind of painkiller in it, but then am finished for about two days - feel like I have run a marathon. The migranes can last from 1-5 days, feel like life is being wasted. I would give anything for someone to fix my broken head

Have you tried the herb feverfew? It will kill a migrane quick make sure you get it as fresh as possible or a very good and potent extract.

i get them too but they started like 5 months ago with a 6 hour migrane to where i was screaming and crying and it felt like i was pounding my head into a brick wall. i have been through everything. they tested my blood for EVERYTHING, I had a spinal tap, mri, catscans, i feel like a drugy cause of all the medicine they have givin me. nothing as showed up and they dont know what the cause of my headaches are. so i have a headache 24/7 and they turn into migranes about 4-5 times of the week and last more then 4 hours….. i hope they stop cause i really want to get rid of them and i dont want then to last years.

Same here. I’m 16, but it’s coming up on 10 years. They have been starting to go away, but now they are coming back. It’s weird that yours only last for a few hours. Mine are really long and usually only go away after sleeping for a long time.

I just recently went to a neurologist because my headaches became so debilitating I wasn’t able to function. After all the tests/MRIs and the extensive amount of time spent with my doctor, i was diagnosed with not only getting migraine headaches but also lucky to have cluster headaches (headaches that are located on one side of the head usually around the eye - which i thought was a chronic sinus infection). By the time I finally got myself to the doctor, I was taking 3 Excedrin Migraine everyday for almost 4 months. At that point, my body was so used to the excedrin that it actually made my headaches worse. My doctor put me on blood pressure medicine that is supposed to open the vessels in the head to relieve tension. It’s a preventative medicine, although it’s not a cure, so I do still get headaches, but not nearly as often. When I do get one of my bad headaches (which is now only about 3/month) I take an orally disintegrating tablet at the onset of a headache and within 10-20 minutes my headache is usually gone. You said you went to a neurologist - did they recommend anything besides an altering of lifestyles?

Hmm…don’t know what to tell you. I had really bad migranes too and went through the usual tests-MRIs, spinal taps, and tried lots of drugs…finally found one that worked but eventually it stopped working too. Had new symptoms…dizziness, sinus problems, ear aches, visual problems a trip to the dentist and the eye doctor actually helped to diagnose the problem. I have a pseudotumor cerebri-or a false tumor-I’ve been on topamax-which is also used to treat migraines-how ironic and haven’t had a headache since. I really hope that they can find something to help you.

I have daily migranes. It is so werid, one morning I was the only one at work, getting ready for my dealership to open. Then next thing I knew I felt a stabing pain in the top left on my head towards my face. It almost made me hit the floor, I was dazed, confused, then I looked above and around me, I thought I got hit by electricity. From that moment on, I have had minor relief at times, never headache free. This was Sep 2007. Three neuro’s later, I feel like a lab rat. It is scary and sad. It is hard to continue to hope for a cure.

Just knowing there are people with the same thing, makes me feel better.

I have migranes I think. I have had two sinus surgeries this past year but I am told that my sinuses are ok now. I also have been getting CT scans, mri, blood work and recently thought maybe I had TMJ. Most of my pain is directly behind my right eye sometimes it radiates to my temples. I also have pain that runs underneath my jawbone close to my ears. The other odd thing is that my vision was great one year ago and within 6 months it has gotton really bad with blurred vision sometimes. Although my eyedoctor tells me it is because I am in my 40’s. It just seems strange that the vision would go from great to bad in 6 months. The only thing that seems to help is to go into a dark, quiet room and put ice all around my face, head, and neck. Has anyone else heard of these symptoms?

Ya for the past two weeks now i have had a shooting pain in the temples on my head and i have to push them to make it stop hurting. i black out but i can still hear people but the sound of them talking irritates me and makes me feel weird and dizzy and frustrated. its hard to explain. But today it got so bad i cried for like 10 mintues but the crying only made it feel worse. Idk if it from a loss of sleep, always on the computer, never eating, school work, stress from moving or what but im only 14 and i dont want this happening to me. i need some suggestions because my mom seems to not care much and i was wondering if i should go to the doctor or not? because regular aleve or advil doesnt help one bit so if any one could help me out a bit so i can get away from these crazy headaches??!?! thanks. :]

I can certainly relate. I am in my early 50’s and can’t remember how many years I’ve had my migranes. They can last from 1 - 3 days. They disrupt my life, I am always cancelling plans with family and friends. I take Imatrix pills and sometimes injections. The only way to releive the nausea is by taking gravol suppositories, and then take the imatrix, otherwise it will not stay in the system. when it gets really bad I inject myself with the imatrix. The side effects from the injections is terrible for the first 10- 20 minutes, you feel like everything is closing on you and you just want to die, but then you fall asleep and you are out like a light for at least 8 - 10 hours. They next day you feel like you’ve been run over by a truck. I am also very sensitive to smells and lights. No one in my family is allowed to wear cologne or perfume.
I am thinking of starting to take daily medication to prevent this, I really didn’t want to do that, but I”m getting to a point that I can’t stand it anymore. I’m fed up.

I have sufferd from vascular constricted migranes since i was 4 years old. I wasnt diagnosed till my early teens. I whent through all tests, doctor after doctor, year after year. I got them almost daily, i used to take a relaxing bath, and drink some hot tea, and nap in a dark quiet room, then in my twentys I have had them become more intense and more freequent, my neck stiffens and cracks before they come on, so the doctor told me take tylinoll when they came on ,but sometimes it wouldnt faze them they would come on full force till i was vomiting, i have been to a cyropractor who told me to fixx my posture which has helped. I tryed lots of migrane meds and finally almost 30 years old i found something that works for me, it is a matianence drug called propranolol.I want to share this with people that suffer because Its consumed so much of my life. now i have a daughter who is 6 and gets mild migranes and now i can focus on her. when i was a child I found taking two childerens chewable tylinoll every morning helped prevent migranes. but i wouldnt suggest doing this for your child untill this becomes frequent enough to inturupd their dailly activities. Hope this helps !

also when you get a migrane put a little icehot on your fore head and temples (be careful not to get in your eyes!) it opens the vescels and relaxes the muscle. and if the back of your neck hurts use it their to. another tip if you have a bad migrane and you cant sleep take tylinol pm, it relaxes your muscle enough to calm your body down to relax for bed! Ice packs help numb the pain also!

Wow, so many things and no one really feels completely relieved except for kevinsmyca. I just put in a call to my neuro. I started out having a headache either pretty severe or mild for over 21 days in a row. They finally diagnosed me with stress/tension headaches and put me on nortripiline, that took away most of the daily headaches. I take 1 at night, but can take up to 2. Now I seem to get the migrane type headaches pre-mensrtal and when the barometric pressure drops, but not only limited to that. UGH! It starts out hurting in the back of my neck, it even hurts to lay down on a pillow, feels like I have the worst head cold. Then when I stand the pain goes to my temples and behind my eyes and still in the back of my neck. I rarely feel nausous, only when very severe, but it wipes me totally out. Dark rooms don’t seem to help. Lying down doesn’t seem to help. I too go to a chiropractor, which I think has helped to some degree. I was taking a pain medicine, but only at night, then ketoprofin for the days. That stopped working. So, waiting to hear back on what they will prescribe next. Does anyone else feel this type of pain.

I have to do a presentation. I’ve been having these headaches for years but sometimes I get lucky and they go away. I just need to sleep. How do you fall asleep? All I feel is the pain in my head and it just consumes everything. I want to go puke so I don’t feel sick anymore but I don’t want to become unhealthy like that again. Medication isn’t helping:S

I get migranes… the only that has worked for me is Excedrin Migrane. I would take 2 then go lay down, and of course fall asleep from how bad the migrane was, then i would m=wake up 30 minutes later and POOF!!!!! the migrane was gone.

My migranes are weriod tho. I get this shooting silver light in one of my eyes that jumps to the other eye after a certain amount of time, then it goes into both eyes and i can barely see. then the silver light goes away leaving behind the worst thing your head could ever feel. Thats pretty much my time-table. If i dont get the migrane meds in me when i see the first flash. then im screwed!

Jessica - Im thinking you really need to go to a doctor. I say this because i really need to go see one too. I have never been to a doctor for my migranse but as you can see in my earlier post, i get them pretty bad too. Ive had them that last for weeks up to the point where i dont even notice their there or that they have gone away. They suck but if you havent already, try excedrin migrane, it REALLY helps me… nothing else has.

My step grandmother has pills for migranes that she gets from her doctor and they really help but i think there to strong for me cause they make me wanna sleep so i havent taken any of those in awhile. I wake up every morning with them and they make me want to cry sometimes. Alot of times they get so bad they mess with my vision and stuff.Usally when they get so bad i want to just leave school and go home but this is my Junior year and i cant keep leaving school if i want to move on to my senior year i just wish these horrible things would go away….and thanks for the advice.

Heres some more advice. When you cry it makes them worse! Extremely worse!!! I had one the other day like that and i cried so hard because it hurt so bad! I woke up in the middle of the night and just couldnt take it… i had one straight for 3 days because i cried. I understand it can be emotional b/c they hurt but be strong and try not to cry and you will make it trhu them!

I would advise against taking your grandmothers pills. Its really dangerous to take someone elses meds because they are prescribed to that person for their specific needs and dosage. Taking them could have bad effects on you and we dont want that to happen. The sleepiness you felt.. thats what im talking about. A doctor wouldnt give you pills that strong so please dont take them. If the excedrin helps.. stick with it!
