The Facts and Fiction of Weight Loss
I asked my physician about my weight loss and he says it is alright for me to lose up to three or four pounds per week, but I have been looking around online lately and a lot of websites say that you shouldn’t lose more than one or two pounds per week.
I watched this television series on MTV called Made and this one teenager lost thirty pounds in six weeks which is a lot more than just one or two pounds per week.
I just don’t understand where the true facts and the fiction are coming from.

“thats deep!” - sorry im adding this on every reply
it also depends on where you’re at. If you’re “overly” overweight, you can still healthily do it with 3 or 4 lbs. Since you already spoke to your physician, and he has your health in great interest, i would go with his #s.
Ok.
Well, that sounds like a good idea to follow my doctor.
I just don’t understand how someone can stay motivated by only losing 1 pound each 7 days. It is sort of crazy.
yeah it is
Hey Jonathon, if you’re very overweight it is possible for you to lose three to four pounds a week. Two pounds a week is recommended for most people, with the following rationale:
There are 3500 calories in one pound. To lose two pounds in one week you’d have to burn 1000 more calories than you consume for each day of the week. A 1000 calorie deficit is not quite as bad as it sounds if you’re willing to exercise. For instance, 1 hour of jump rope can burn between 600 and 800 calories per hour, and you would only have to consume around 300 calories less to make up the difference of 1000. Unfortunately, most people are not willing to exercise; they would rather starve themselves, thinking this will yield faster results with the least amount of effort. The problem with this approach is that, even if one were able to eat 1000 calories less each day (and many find they easily can, actually), eventually such a diet would cause you to lose as much muscle as fat. So someone who wishes to reduce from 180 pounds to 130 might get there through starvation and find that they are still quite fat. This person will also find that she now has to work very hard to lose whatever fat is left, as her metabolism will be significantly slower, and her skin will appear very ‘loose’ because it has little muscle underneath to support it. She will also have less energy and be less motivated, and will likely regain most if not more than the weight she lost — but this time it will all be fat. The answer is, of course, to exercise a lot (STRENGTH TRAINING), rather than starve yourself.
Don’t forget that the kid on MTV will have lost a lot of water weight during that first month; 10-15 pounds. If you’re trying to lose weight, I think luck is on your side; men always seem to lose weight much more quickly than women, and they keep it off. I think men can adhere to a new routine better.
Alright.
Thank you so much for that reply.
I run about mile each day along with situps and pushups, so I do exercise.
Depends on the extremity of the diet, if you are on a crash or fasting diet you will lose lots of weight, if you are on a methamphetamine diet you will lose lots of weight ~smiles~.
The important thing is to consume a crapload of water everday. It is vitally important that when dieting you do not cause anymore damage to the liver and kidneys than possible. Plus water weight is not an exact weight loss and you can lose 6 lbs in a few hours of hiking with water wedight, so true weight can only be measured if you are maintaining hydration.
You can lose up to 5 lbs a week if you are staying hydrated and eating minimal whole foods ~smiles~. If it is working for you then just do it!
Hey Guitar, great start with the exercise. If you’re looking to lose weight I’d suggest amping it up as you improve your mile. And add some resistance training if you don’t want to lose muscle!
I am going shopping for some weights and make some other stuff tomorrow. I have been overweight for a long time and I am so tired of it.
way to take the bull head on………
