You should cancel every card that you own credit and debit.
That is all most people would do.

If you are really paranoid you can close down your bank accounts and open new ones. And you should request new passwords and user log on details from your online bank accounts (or just transfer the money to a safer not online account).

You cannot prevent them using your name for anything else, but they are unlikely to use it for anything else. If you really want to you can move house.

Did you report it to the authority, your bank and other places when someone stole your identity? if you do that way you are not responsible for the charges and your credit report will be safe.

You need to call Experian, Trans Union and Equifax to report fraud on your identity. If you don’t you will be resposible for these debts and they will stay on your record for a long, long time. I’m really sorry I don’t have their phone numbers with me, but you should be able to look them up online.

I just had my identity stolen 2 weeks ago. Acting quickly may have saved me thousands of dollars.

Contact the police and make a report. They can also advise of what to do next.

Ok thanks, I tried calling the police, and I suppose to provide them with proof of theft, so I told my bank about it, and they will be sending me, the charged they made, so I could use to file the report. for the credit bureau, they said I could put a credit alert.

You should also put an alert on your credit cards, so whenever you use them, you have to show a valid picture ID. Nowadays, some banks can put your picture right on your Card. Inquire about that.

The next time you get new credit cards, inquire about having your picture on them. Some institutions are doing that now. Also have it set up to where you have to show some valid ID when using your cards.
