Emails @ Help — An Inquiry
We’re going to be revamping the email system at Help in the very near (like, two weeks) future and wanted to get some input before moving forward.
We’d like to ask:
- Do you use them, or are they turned off?
- How do you use Help.com emails?
- What part of the emails do you find the most important? Least?
- What would you like to see the emails do? More? Less?
Here’s a concept “email settings control panel” we’ve been looking at:

As you’ll note, it would allow you to totally customize when you got alerts about each “block” of email data. We think that this is moving in the right direction, but would like to feedback before we go about changing it all.
Thanks!

Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen

options are a good idea.
I enjoy the email updates. They keep me updated on my posts I contributed to even when I’m busy.
Don’t currently use the email feature, probably never will…
I don’t like the e-mails that much, i get too many, i turned mine on the other day and had 317 lol and yes i know i can turn it off before you all yell that at me.
I like the new idea though jeff, very cool
never buy a cat in a bag :try it first
We’d like to ask:
- Do you use them, or are they turned off? Turned Off
- How do you use Help.com emails? Don’t use them
- What part of the emails do you find the most important? Least? See Above
- What would you like to see the emails do? More? Less? Would only find emails useful if they contained information that cannot be obtained from signing into help.com
Basically I don’t use emails. I will sign into help.com, even if only for 2 minutes, to check all of the info myself. I don’t have them turned on to prevent receiving the notice updates. And turning them on with the customization to notify me of shouts/invites/etc, would be pointless because I will get that info when I sign in to check my notices anyway.
I like having the option to use or not use them though. I think they are useful for people who can’t or don’t want to sign in frequently to check this stuff. I just prefer to come in and check it myself.
We second Cadys’ answers.

So, basically you agree with me too. But you can’t SAY you agree with Cady cause it will ruin your image? :P

Yeah, he has to retain his cool independence. Don’t go crowding the man! Sheesh.
I should run some stats to see how many of you *don’t* use the emails.
Also, would ya’ll do me a favor and invite some other’s to answer this post — I only covered so many. Thanks :)

Go ahead, Jeff! Run some stats! Like you have nothing to do.

Wow, you’re right it is…I’ve been typing it wrong for years. Weird.

I’m with Cady on this one as well. As far as e-mails go I would like to see an easier and safer way to share your e-mail address with someone.

First of all, I keep clicking the **** “quotable” thing when I try to quote someone. Sorry about that.
But I wanted to tell you, in case you weren’t aware, if you want to share your email with someone, you can now share it without posting it for everyone to see.
If you go to your list of friends, there’s a button you can click to “share your email with this person”. Then they can go to your profile and email you from there. No one will see the email though. Only the person who you’ve shared it with will have the option to email you.
Did you know you could do this? Or were you looking for an even better option than that? I wasn’t sure what you meant, so just wanted to let you know.
I know this, but not many people do or use it. I’m looking for something a little more noticeable that tells you that you can now see someone’s e-mail.

I want this
I receive the emails but never read them
Some of them end up in my spam thats how many I get
Do you use them, or are they turned off?
- Turned off.
How do you use Help.com emails?
- Don’t ~ unless it’s an accident…lol…then I delete it.
What part of the emails do you find the most important? Least?
- I don’t think they are important.
What would you like to see the emails do? More? Less?
- More. I really like the concept that you have there. I like how you split things up. The only thing I would want to do is have an e-mail sent when someone sends me a shout. I have enough notices right now to last me at least a year, and I get enough e-mails as it is w/o adding an e-mail for every new post/reply.
lost emil address we have the password its (email removed)
