I’m having HORRIBLE migraines that last for five days.
What have you done about your migraines? I don’t want to go to the doctor and get a prescription to take for the rest of my life. I want to know what is causing them, not medicate them. Are there any holistic ways to treat? I go to the chiropractor. I have allergies (regular pollen, etc.) and the only medication I am on is birth control.
I can STAND these any more! They’ve been like this for five or six years and I totally can not focus for days at a time. I’ll go a month without one then a whole week of horrible throbbing pain with sensitivity to light and sound. I also get dizzy.
Please advise?

Excedrin Migraine! take 2 or 3 depends on how you react to meds and how old you are!! BEST in the World!! i take 2 but then if its really bad i take 3!!
Thats really funny because I discovered Excedrin migrane about a year ago. Those help If I take it before it gets bad. But if its already bad, then they don’t help at all. not sure why.
My husband gets migraines and he doesn’t have to be on a meds the rest of his life even tho he saw a nero doc after a really bad episode. He takes Excedrin Migraine. Sometimes he can sleep it off but he usually takes the Excedrin first.
Go to the doctor. It might be some serious medical condition, you never know. So get it checked out, that’s what they get paid for, to help you.
Even natural / holistic medicine needs professional advice, your health is important, all remedies can have serious side effects, your medical history can also reflect on what type of remedie you need, you need to get professional guidance and be well informed of the risks and advantage of your treatment.
Pain is usually a natural alarm, a simple meddage from your body, you need to figure out what is the cause.
5 days of severe migrain is not a good sign, it is always good to first get a medical examination before you start any treatment. You really need to “scan” your body for the source of your pain professionally.
Your doctor will inform you of the cause and you can also ask your doctor if you can take a natural alternative. If you already have a natural treatment in mind you can inform your doctor and they can advice you if it is safe based on your medical history.
Take care, i hope you feel better soon :O
Try rubbing lavander oil on your temples, it helps me when I get minegranes. you can get it at any occult shop, or just a store that sells homemade soaps.
If they continue though, you are going to have to go to the doctor.
I hope you get well soon
blessed be
Jessica
Keep a headache diary and try to avoid the triggers that cause the headache. From http://aches.in/headache.html
What about Theives Oil or Brain Power by Living Young? I have a friend who used Theives Oil for sinus headaches but I don’t know anything about Brain Power except it is supposed to be for migraines.
Hope you feel better soon.
Acupuncture is another holistic medicine that is effective in treating chronic headaches. An acupuncturist presses the pressure points and nerves on the body and this alleviates the pain due to chronic headaches.

Hey! I know this post is old but I was trying to find a medical website I came across a few months back. There was an entire forum of people with a rare (or under diagnosed) migraine problem where meeting up and chatting. Spanning from teens to the elderly all over the world.
There’s plenty of different things that can cause headaches and migraines. Anything from lack of sleep, low glucose, lack of drinking enough water (should be 1-3 qrts a day up to a gallon for people who work out a lot) lack of caffeine for those who drink a lot. Allergies to food, plants, molds and mildew. And sever issues like tumors and blood clots.
To find a holistic way to care for something I would first go to a doctor and rule out if it is a major problem. I had a friend a few years ago ran around for 4 or 5 days complaining his head hurt so bad and I told him to go to the doctor.
Eventually he did and they found a brain tumor was growing and putting pressure on his brain. Later he thanked me for making him go.
As far as if it’s just something simple. Keep a diary, that’s a good idea.
Lavender (lavandula angustifolia) May help relief stress, nausea and help you get some sleep. And although it’s an amazing plant, it will not cure everything.
When using essential oils ALWAYS read the label and KNOW where it comes from. Because in most cases today the oils are adulterated and just labeled to look like the same thing. In that case not only are your thinking you are receiving benefits but aren’t you could be getting something dangerous or possible get an allergic reaction to these false oils. If all else fails follow your nose. Also there is multiple species of many plants. Lavender grows in many places but the kind that everyone referrers to having healing properties is the above mentioned (lavandula angustifolia) also know as “high altitude lavender” because it grows in France at a high altitude. Plants growing in other places will have different chemical compounds in them. Be careful!
One last thing - there’s tiny muscles that attach from the top cervical vertebra to the base of the skull under the occipital lobe. Sometimes these can cause “pains in the neck” and migraines.
I would go check with a doctor to eliminate serious stuff like tumors and clots and then try to correct your food / water intake. If it is still an issue go see a good chiropractor and massage therapist.
Also a warning to those who take things with naproxen (Aleve) in it - Read ALL of the side effects and warning label information here’s ONE snippet as to why I suggest this!
“Naproxen may increase the blood levels of lithium (Eskalith) by reducing the excretion of lithium by the kidneys. Increased levels of lithium may lead to lithium toxicity.”
K take care!
