Hello,
Can someone proof read this:
Thank You :)
To whom it may concern,
I want to first iterate that I have been a Walgreen’s employee for over 5 years. I have had many experiences with customers and colleagues. I’ve been involved with many proud moments. Working with customers and helping them save money and surprising the customers is a very satisfying thing for me. I’m sure when working with Walgreen’s you become imbedded with satisfying customers to the fullest. My letter here today is not to talk about what I did, but what “Walgreen” believes. Employee moral has not been good lately. I’m saddened how “Walgreen’s” has treated me and fellow colleagues. What ever happened to “equal opportunity?” Does it even exist anymore? More and more companies are facing issues and some very serious like what “Walgreen’s” went though recently. Being discriminated is the worst feeling that a person can feel. I have experienced and still experiencing this problem. Though I have mentioned this to my store manager and still do not understand why we are being treated like this. Why do I have to be treated differently than a female? Just because I’m a man I shouldn’t have to wear certain garment and women are not harassed. What is happening to our moral obligation to praise our employees for the hard work we do. It seems the focus is more on how men look making sure they are wearing a tie while the women wear nice comfortable tees. Yes, some employees slack off and for this, I understand the company has to have disciplinary actions brought forth to employees, but this has nothing to do with performance but looks. When I was hired I was not under the impression that I would be treated differently because I was a man. I would bet that if people had an idea they were going to be treated different because they are male or female, they would not apply unless the gender is dominated in the facility. I had a discussion with my store manager about “why does a man have to be treated differently than a woman”. She simply stated “I was told by my supervisor that men have to wear a tie and women can wear “T” shirts”. My jaw dropped, I started to think and I felt like I was working in the 50″s. I though discrimination has stopped. I feel stupid in believing in “Walgreen’s” that this wouldn’t be taking place. I still don’t understand why we don’t initiate a uniform policy and not deal with problems and hurt employee moral. Why worry about who is wearing a tie or who doesn’t have a collar shirt on. Why are women allowed to show cleavage and not be reprimanded for this? Are you telling me that a man is over women and males are superior over women because we wear a tie? Is “Walgreen’s” telling me they still believe in old fashion customer service where minorities work in the back and being able to advance is hard especially if I’m a different gender or race? I hope this letter will inspire scratch that, open the eyes of the people that are involved in making decisions when it comes to employee relation. It is very important for employee moral to be at its best and I’m not asking for a “Ferrari” I just to be treated fare and square and not worry about being fired for not wearing a piece of clothing just because someone thinks it looks good to them. Why not make women wear a tie also and let’s just call it a day. Ouch!
