It should be fine. But if you are concerned, just put it in your checked baggage instead of carry on.

Oh, you can also call the airport and ask them if they allow it on carry-on.

it depends… are you of a dark skin that can be mistaken for a middle eastern person… if so any metal object will be scrutinized at american airports… its very consistent… I have yet to travel in NY or NJ where a person of Indian, Pakistanian etc… ethnicity wasn’t held at the gate, even a new born mother with a baby in her arm was held, scrutinized and humiliated in front of hundreds of her fellow passengers (her personal garments were scattered all over a large table only a few feet from the line of passengers waiting at the gate).

stay away from bringing any electronic/electrical devices that cannt be turned on by battery. avoid containers with liquid or powder. avoid any sohpisticated looking electronics that may not be familiar to a ordinary person. They’ll confiscate that $5000 engineering calculator/analyzer.

then again if you use kennedy airport or newark airport you probably know all this.
if you miss your flight due to incompetence, paranoid american security personnel it’ll be upto you to pay for another flight… so don’t give these crazy people any excuse to hold you.

I bring a simple backpack and a fully charged laptop but then I am a guy.
