Iodine levels in iodized salt

I’m doing some research on Jod-Basedow effect, or Iodide induced Thyrotoxicosis (IIT) for my friend (she has hyperthyroidism) and I want to know how much iodine is contained in iodized salt.

I’m concerned that she may ingest too much and worsen her medical situation. I understand that the recommended levels are somewhere around 100 or so mcg. iodine daily, but have no idea how to gauge the levels in the salt. Does anybody know the answer or where i could find out?

A doctor!
Hypothyroidism can be treated with takeing a hormone pill once aday, blood test to be taken every few months to get the right dosage and once the levels even out that means the right dose has been met and then only one blood test a year is required to make sure the body has not changed as it ages, the hormone pill is to be taken for life. That is what I got told when I was diagnosed and will be starting treatment eventually. I would recommend seeing a doctor rather than takeing it into your own hands to treat

On the Morton Salt container 1/4tsp (1.5gms) contains 45% of the daily iodine RDA.

:-) Thank you, candp.

LazyDazeTCo, my friend is seeing a doctor, but I don’t know if he mentioned to her the amount of iodine to include in her diet. Her mom insists that she have as much iodized salt as she can, which, based on my research, is not safe.

Thank you both, for your help and concern. :-)
