IRS Warns Taxpayers Of Scam
08-28-2007 7:19 AM
(Undated) — There’s a new e-mail scam for taxpayers to watch out for. The Internal Revenue Service says the unsolicited e-mail claims to be from the IRS and says you can get 80 dollars by filling out a survey. But when you open the mail, it downloads a Trojan Horse that can damage your computer or allow remote access to your hard drive. IRS spokesman Raphael Tulino urges you to ignore the e-mail. He says the agency does not initiate contact with taxpayers. Any spam e-mails that appear to be from the IRS should be forwarded to (email removed). Questions about tax refunds should be directed to the IRS by phone at 1-800-829-1040.
