Has anyone ever pulled a bladder muscle?
I know it sounds strange but I think I either pulled a bladder muscle or some muscle around it ’cause it hurts in that area but not from having to pee. Although, I do have to go pee a lot more often. Especially at night-even though a little comes out-it’s like my bladder is extra sensitive to any little bit of urine I may be holding and I end up having to go almost every hour on the hour.
I’m sure it’s some kind of muscle pull. Maybe it’s some kind of hernia? I lift a lot of heavy stuff. I’m pretty strong but my ab muscles aren’t that in shape. Do you think it could be a form of a hernia?
Just wondering if anyone else has had this or has heard about something like it.

wow. I have no idea.
Ask a professional?
lol, yeah-but they always misdiagnose or make me go do all of these expensive tests just to say it was what I already knew it was. It’s no biggie. An inconvenience is more of the problem. Thanks Issy.
I am not a doctor but, what you are describing sounds like a rupture or hernia. I know you don’t like going to the doctor but, the only way you will get relief is to go get examined. If you think this happened at work you may be covered by Workman’s Compensation. If so the Government will pay all your medical bills. If it is a hernia maybe you can wear a truss to give you some temporary relief. Check with your druggist if you still insist not to see a doctor.
I am having that same thing happening to me! I went to the doctors and she did a “thorough” exam, if you know what I mean, and she said nothing was wrong. I do a lot of crunches and maybe overdid or something, she told me she thought it was a muscle overuse thing and so I stopped doing them for four days, felt better, went back to exercise class and it came right back. I think it must be a muscle strain in the abdomen or something. I’m going to not do ab exercises for a week and see what that does. If not, I have such good luck with a physical therapist. They seem to know exactly what’s going on. It’s usually a muscle spasm somewhere that’s causing the problem. Let me know how you’re doing now. It’s really annoying, isn’t it? I’m assuming my doctor would have discovered if it was a hernia or even suggested it and she didn’t. And I told her what I had been doing. She also gave me a bladder test for an infection and it came back negative. She also told me to use hot compresses and advil or aleve (they always say that!). Janice
Thank you ManBearPig,RonRumpf and Janice,
I clean for a living so I lift a lot of things up and I vacuum. Sometimes it’s hard to push the vacuum cleaner if it doesnt have a height adjuster on it. I’m positive it’s some kind of hernia, muscle pull thing going on. When I put tiger balm on my lower abs then the pain stops but the having to pee alot gets to be annoying real fast.
I think I do need a truss and abdominal exercises.
Janice, they hurt when you do ab crunches? Hmmmm, I’ll try crunches too and see what happens.
Thanks again everyone.
Hi, again. I went to the physical therapist yesterday and she examined me and I my pubic bone was not aligned and my psoas muscle is in spasm. The pubic bone is right above the bladder and she said all my organs sit on top of the psoas muscle. So if that’s in spasm, problems like this occur. Anyway, she did an adjustment and told me how to stretch my psoas muscle and I’m feeling much better this morning — I actually slept all night! I have to go back a couple more times because she said it may not work the first time. Anyway, you should check out going to see a PT or a chiropractor, I’m sure, could do the same thing. I’m sure you can find psoas muscle stretches on line, but she told me to drape myself back side down over my fitness ball and stretch my body. The musle is deep like in your side/back. She said it’s hard to stretch, but there are a couple ways you can do it. Good luck! Janice.
Hello there, Well I think I have the same problem too, I do left weights, but it started begining the year then it went away, the started again almost 1 1/2 months now. it fells discomfert… is yours the same too? always I can fell it the uncomftableness
I have the same problem, and I think it occurred after I did about 300 crunches upside down on a slant board. I went to the doctor, and after ruling out an infection, agreed that it could have been the crunches. He gave me a prescription for a desensitizer for the area and I took a muscle relaxant and so far, so good.
No more crunches for a while!
I just recently developed this same problem. I am pretty sure it came from doing so many sit ups. I thought I was just crazy, but I see I’m not the only one with this problem. I am not doing sit ups for a while until this clears up. I came close to thinking it was a UTI, but that wasn’t the problem. Maybe I should get a muscle relaxer as well.
hi, i have been having the same problem…but do u think it could be from coughing? Since i currently have the cold and have been coughing a lot. I was urinating and couching at the same time and i thought i might have pulled something but i wasnt sure…i feel discomfort and a little pain AFTER urinating and i feel pressure on my lower stomach…but i dont have any symptoms of a UTI either
I’ve had a problem (which sounds the same as all those above) for a while now.
My problem is in my lower stomach (to the left) which feels like the bladder area. I get a pain whenever i try to use the muscles in this area like sit-ups, or even just trying to sit up in bed, or get out of bed, or up from a couch.
My pain might be worse than others because i’ve been playing football (soccer to some) qiute a few times a week and i think this means the muscle can’t heal, but i’me just guessing that it’s a muscle problem really to be honest!
Also, I get a slightly uncomfortable sensation (a feeling similar to a full bladder) when my bladder is only a little full. and this discomfort is almost completely gone once i’ve urinated.
I saw a doctor who didn’t have a clue what was going on and referred me to see a physio therapist. I haven’t been yet.
Please visit a urologist and see if its Sensitive Bladder syndrome. They don’t know why it happens but I too were doing alot of crunches and ad work and then it happened.
Hello,I am a dutch woman, having a bit the same problems: feeling of an injury near the bladder, pain in the left side of the low abdomen ,esp with moving and all the time the urge to pee. I saw a gynecologist ,an urologist and a pelvic floor therapist, nobody seems able to help me. I think it is an injury in the abdominalmuscle(s)
Did you already found relief?
If you are better can you mail me what to do?
Hey guys, I am having the same thing. I have been doing abs everyday for about 13 mins straight for a month. The bladder is very irritated. I even took 4 days off from doing abs and went back and worked them. The problem came right back again and lasts for about 2 days. It is really annoying. How long did u guys have to wait until it healed and you could continue doing crunches? Thanks

I am an English woman with same symptoms as the abovefor 5 months. I think the problem may well be overstrained pelvic floor muscles as the problem has been exacerbated for me by 2 physiotherapists activating these muscles. I have seen my doctor and been examined several times, urine tested etc. Saw gynaecologist who thought symphisis pubis could be involed. I believe the way forward now is comlete rest and possibly an osteopath. Janicebadea could be on the right track. Try and relax!
Hey. I’m back. Went to the osteopath and he found trouble in the coccyx area and is trying to correct this. I also saw a urologist who said pelvic floor related bladder trouble was not unknown but difficult to diagnose. Often in women who are athletes (I have been a dancer) and people who have had abdominal surgery (I tick that box too). The urologist wants the osteopath to have a go so we shall see how successful he is. It may take some time.
I am having the same issue with the lower ab uncomfort. I too have been doing alot of ab wrkouts and one day the frequent urinating came alone with a sore like feeling in my lower ab. Seem to be sitting on top of the bladder. I quit for a week and a half , then it went away along w/the frequent urine sensation. The I started back and now it has come back. I need anyone who has overcome this to help me out with solving the problem. Please this is very annoying.
I have been cured of this awful pain and urinary frequency by an osteopath in three treatments. (After five months). Of course it will depend on the skill of your manipulator but this seems to be the way forward in general terms as it is a mechanical problem. But lay off the abs training for a while and then perhaps do something less direct like swimming when you are better?
Wow I had all signs of bladder issues, kidney stones, Urinary frequency. Went to the doctor got blood work CT scan all came back fine. Read this article and found that when I touched the Psoas muscle it hurt? Did some stretching of the Psoas muscle and now my bladder pressure is slowly gone! I hope once the Psoas is released I will be cured but so far it feels a lot better.
i have done the same thing when i pulled the muscle where the bladder is and I t felt inflammed down there . when i stop doing it and it stop the pains . I have no clue…
I have a similar issue.
I was doing a lot of physio to repair a herniated disc in my back and a lot focussed on the abdominal area.
Suddenly one night I had shart shooting pains in my lower abdominal area in my pubic region and couldn’t lift my leg up to put pants on. Didn’t bother me when urinating or increase the urgency. Didn’t bother me to cough but I blew my nose and was in severe pain afterwards.
Went to hospital and ruled out hernia and kidney stones. Said it was probably a muscle that was pulled as a result of extreme abdominal crunches. Gave me heavy pain killers which I’m slowly going off to determine if the pain is actually alleviating or if it was only masked by meds.
Today is almost 24 hours no meds and pain is there as a dull throb but not as severe as 2 days ago when I could barely walk and was in tears going to the hospital.
I’m having similar problems. I was stuck in the car with an incredible urge to urinate but I couldn’t given my location. I waiting for about 10-15 minutes (the time it took to get home) and almost lost it. Though I made it home and urinated I’ve been feeling this dull “pain” around my bladder for a week now; the only relief I feel for extended periods of time is when I relax my bladder as if I’m urinating. I’ve been to a urologist and tests came back negative for bacteria and my prostate is good. However, the doctor did give me antibiotics just in case. I noticed some improvement yesterday but today my bladder is irritated and I’m having to go more frequently again. It really does feel like I strained something but I don’t know and am really looking for someone with a similar experience. I was hoping this thing would clear up but it’s been 7 days now and I’m starting to get worried.
I think I have strained my bladder muscle as I have to pee all the tine and have dull ache too, I do lift heavy things and am 61 not good. Have seen doctor twice but have not got any help yet. Got antibiotics but no help and do not have infection. I think rest and not lifting would be the answer.
i think you have a UTI. Its a Urinary Tract Infection. I don’t know a lot about them, but I do know that you have to pee every half hour or so, and there is a medication that you can take for it. The only reason I am here on this page right now is because I just decided to stretch upward, and instead of a satisfying stretch, I felt a sharp sudden pain near my bladder that made me scream. It scared me very much, and I am now very sore, and still a little bit in pain there. I am sure what you have is nothing serious, but if you do continue to pee every hour or so, don’t expect anything worse than a bladder infection. I am not sure about the hernia, so you might want to check with your doctor, but I wouldn’t jump to conclusions. You can make yourself crazy looking things up on the internet. Just make sure that if it continues for a while, you get the right medication needed for whatever it turns out to be. Hope this helps a little bit… :)
