Why don’t you try talking to him first? Feel him out, see if he’s interested. Develop a dialogue with him, so you’ll feel comfortable asking him to hang out, or have coffee, or whatever it is you want to ask him to do. Do you have him in any classes? Do you talk to him at all? It’d be helpful to know how much contact you have with him. I agree with Xeno Dragon, part of building relationships is taking the risk that you might get hurt, but it’s a great and beautiful risk.

I understand how you feel about being a statue. Sometimes, it helps to come up with topics you want to talk about with him, just for now, so as you get used to talking to him, conversation will come easy. You have to feel comfortable around him first, otherwise, if you ask him out, and go on a date, it’ll be a silent one. Start slow, then go for it. Good luck.

Try getting to know him first! talk to him more and really spend some quality time with him.
And yes that can be considered flirting but if you want to be sure get a friend of yours to ask joby or joby’s friend if he likes you. But make sure it’s a friend you trust and she or he will pretend you no nothin about this..
