Find a carrier that will not only pay you a decent rate but also allow you decent hometime and also treat you with respect. The former is easier to find than the latter two. And I dont suggest van type, they are a dime a dozen. Flat bedding is what I do and will never change. Higher load pay and the customers you deliver to are not particular like grocery store owners. Average pay is 65% of the load with their trailer or 75% with your own. All fuel surcharge and other pay goes to the truck 100%. Do not settle for less.

And in Indiana, you are in prime territory.

UPS or Walmart, if you can get on Walmart I think they are at 65 cents a mile or some rediculous rate like that. My brother drives for PSE and can’t get on Wal-Mart because he has had a few tickets. I guess you need a pretty clean record.

I know PSE use to pay well for leases, but they just bought a bunch of trucks.

If you had a flatbed or a dry box you could find all kinds of work ~chuckles~.

The going rate seems to be .90 cents a mile. Heartland is the highest I’ve found at .94 with a .01 annual safety bonus, as far as a van, I guess I should go flatbed for a percentage of the load which would be a much higher…

Swift?! That is a newbie company, hell they’d probably make you put in a GPS and govenor in your truck if you don’t already got one ~snickers~. Swift trucks aren’t allowed to go past 58mph. I guess they up’d it to 62 or something, but you still end up passing 100 swift trucks on a good day ~chuckles~.

If you read the question I ask, I’m buying my own truck, if I was to lease on to a company and pull van trailer then, so far the best paying I’ve found is Heartland, they are paying .94 cents a mile, all the rest I’ve seen are only paying .90 cents, Heartland is a debt free company, and it pays more than anyone else will pay me then, I would lease on with them, I’m not worried about getting respect, I’m trying to make a living……

You can do both. If you wont be clearing 2000.00 a week dont settle. Heartland and many others will promise you the world, but they wont deliver. Live and learn then, good luck.

and be home every weekend and at home 2 nights during the week? Heartland can’t do that, but it is possible. Keep your options open and dont rely on National Carriers to do that, you will be just a number on a truck to them. And I did read the question that you asked, it’s just not my first rodeo in the trucking industry. But good luck.
